I reckon

this means something, I reckon
a faith in broken laws
still shattered by unforeseen
circumstances, last friday
a fool crashed into my truck.

I was the angriest I've ever been
my hair and my frown
in disarray, the jewelry you bought me
bulging an inch to the left
draped from my neck like a cemetery

a blow to my everlasting pride spewing
less than graceful and unloving verbs —

my body not fully warm with theine
yet my soul anthurium
with tongue unsheathing
like a sword
my veins like pulled ribbon

and this means something, I reckon
the harsh lesson
everything — even the nicest
things — you own is
temporary and I can't own it all

Sometimes I worry if it applies to you
