I followed the trail of whispers
back to where we first met
the Campus Square, newspapers
scattering across the empty streets

Passed through the press frenzy
seems to swear they were giving
safe things like you all back to their owners
I got smattered by one of the pages
and saw a great picture of you—
You had a burning, determined look
the scar on your cheek, the sullen
look on your face, your ruined lips
you glued them shut when you were █ █ █
raging against your thousand voices
surrounded by scientists and military men

I knew you weren't dead, even though
everyone said I was crazy, mourning the loss
of my own daughter, whom no one loved
and at one point I am ashamed to admit
I had questions, we argued a lot
and it wasn't even fair, you couldn't control
your thousand voices, sounding like him
when you were young
your Dad and I celebrated your birthday
kept the room the same when you were with us
you're █ █ █. Practically a woman-
we have schools around here
of nice people, we can homeschool even

I will follow the whispers again
fill the paperwork
move closer to see you if they
keep you away from me
so I can visit you no matter the distance
I miss you, you must have gone
through so much, I don't know
what you think of me. I promise
to protect you again.

I love you, daughter of a thousand voices.
I want you to be with us again.

a/n: The boxes are whited out text. No one knows the daughter's true age besides the mother of course
