Spider Web

I didn't mean to hurt you,
I just wanted to love you,
To spin fabrics the world had never seen,
To touch emotions and feelings seam by seam,
I weaved the grandest, shimmering tales,
From birds to sharks to peacocks to whales,
I filled the world with color,
But sought too much—I played goddess—
It was a role that wasn't meant to be.

She came down and struck me,
Her tales of horror, war,
Yet wisdom and strategy,
The people loved mine—my love, my kindness,
The happiness shared through the threads,
But they were lies.

I told tales that weren't mine,
I told feelings that weren't mine,
I told of friendships I've never acquired,
Love I never had,
I told of faraway places where I'd never go,
I told of meticulous trials that I'd never overcome,
But she saw through all of it.

Her eyes flared through my fabrics,
Through the seams by seams,
The feelings that truly seemed
Real to most—were empty.

She saw through it all,
Cursed me, revealed who I really was,
But I would keep spinning:

Keep spinning patterns the world had never seen,
Keep touching emotions and feelings seam by seam,
Keep weaving the grandest, shimmering tales,
Keep drawing people in, so they could hail,

My web of lies.
