I Didn't Know

I didn't know you pushed me away so you wouldn't hurt me.

I thought you didn't want to be close to me.

I didn't know you were hurting and lay awake at night, crying into the morning.

I thought I was the only one.

I didn't know you wanted to tell me and you tried so hard for me.

I thought you didn't care.

I was blind to so many things and I want to let you know I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I didn't know.

I didn't know I loved you until it was too late.

If I knew, I would've held you close and told you I wouldn't leave.

Because I wouldn't have.

If I knew, I would've let your demons and mine play together at night.

It wouldn't have mattered how broken and hurting we were as long as we were together.

If I knew, I would've told you I understood and that it was okay.

But I didn't know.

I know that if I had known what I didn't know then things would have gone differently.

So here's to everything I didn't know.
