The World

We are our world:
The people scattered throughout the lands,
Of every color, culture, nation, and hand.

We are our world:
The city of lights illuminating the night sky,
The satellites shining like stars that cry,

We are our world.

We're the waves of the ocean,
Running back and forth.
We're the sands of the desert,
Stretching through time.

We are our world.

The world—
The unique and beautiful rainforests,
Cut down for city plans and standard patterns;
The shimmering oceans of infinity,
Filled with salt and anger and regrets;
The mountain slopes that touch the sky,
Restrained by zip lines and tourist attractions;

This is our world.

It grows like a tree—spreading its branches outward and onward—
Innovation, creativity, individuality,
Flowers covered by leaves of green, ordinary time.

But,

Our world is us.

We are a cycle, a generation,
We are timeless,

The world's everlasting beauty—
The beaches, the forests, the deserts, the mountains—
Will be once again
