*Selena*

The next day, after an uneventful morning, I went to meet with Starlene. I found her in the Drake's shared study. It was a massive room. There were six desks arranged in a semi circle on one side of the room and a sitting area on the other side of the room. The couches and armchairs in the sitting area sat in front of a fireplace. Starlene was sitting at her desk, looking over a letter.

"Good afternoon, Selena," she greeted me as she looked up and noticed my presence.

"Hi Star," I replied. Starlene set the letter down and stood. Her tight black pants and blood red shirt weren't exactly what I would imagine a Queen to wear on a daily basis, but the supernatural world wasn't exactly known for doing what was expected. "You wanted to see me?" I asked.

"Yes," she replied, "I wanted to make sure you know what to expect tonight when Tatiana, Neoma, and Griffin arrive." I nodded and she continued, "We'll be meeting in the Council room. It's a sacred place in Cygnus Keep because it's where the High Leaders of all the factions meet and discuss the issues of the supernatural world. When something involves all of us, we meet there."

"What do you mean High Leaders?" I asked.

"The highest ranked individuals in each faction," Starlene explained, "In this case, that's me and my siblings, along with Griffin, Neoma, and Tatiana. Every faction has one leader or more. And that leader is responsible for governing that faction, but each leader also has a Council to advise them. Or in the case of the vampires, my siblings and I are both the High Leaders and the Council with Malcolm acting as our advisor."

"Okay so I already know Neoma, who are Tatiana and Griffin?" I asked.

"Tatiana is the Queen of the Fae and Griffin is the High Alpha," Starlene replied, "Wolves follow strength and as the High Alpha, Griffin is the strongest among them. He's extremely loyal and willing to fight for what's right, but wolves put their pack ahead of everything else, which sometimes causes problems at these meetings. We all have the best interests of the supernatural world in mind when we make our decisions, Griffin just tends to think about his pack before the rest of our world. Tatiana is a sweet woman and cares deeply about our world. Unsurprising, given that the Fae are natural born protectors of others."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Faeries have an instinct that tells them to place others above themselves. It's incredibly selfless and they are always willing to help where they are needed," Starlene explained. That was surprising. The stories I'd heard always depicted faeries as scheming, cunning, little tricksters that couldn't be trusted. They were wrong yet again it seemed.

"So why do I need to know all of this again?" I asked.

"Well because you'll be in the meeting with us," Starlene replied, "It'll be rather informal. We don't really refer to each other by our titles unless other people are present. This meeting is private."

"Why?" I asked. I needed to know why the Drakes wanted me there.

"I'm sorry?" Starlene asked.
