When I Was Your Man

"I never thought that things will get so complicated," I said to break the silence. I then moved and sat beside Bree.

I looked at Charlie first then gazed Bree.

I took a deep breath before I started talking again.

"I really don't have to choose..." I stated. Both of them looked at me as if they wanted me to explain further.

"I know who I want to be with. It's been months since I made the hardest decision but never did I regret it." I continued.

I smiled at Charlie and I saw a tear fell from her eyes.

I focused on Bree and took her hand. I faced her and said, "I'm not happy with what's happening with you. You are a total mess! The only reason I went to the bar to get you is because I want to fulfill my promise that I will always be there for you."

"Maybe not as your lover anymore but at least as your friend... Hindi ka na iba sa akin Bree. I must admit, I still care and love you pero not as much as I did." I explained.

"Life has so much more to offer Bree, and you need to look at the bright side why we had to go on separate ways. I'm sure one day, when we go back to this day, we'll just smile and realized that this actually made us stronger and better individuals." I continued.

"Moving on is difficult. I've been there! Charlie knows how hard it was for me to handle it but I was able to survive it. So if I was able to do it, I bet you can do it way better because honestly, you are stronger than me." I said.

"We'll help you, magsabi ka lang of what you need. But you have to believe that you can. You have to choose yourself above all. Love yourself more Bree. Maraming nagmamahal sayo., lahat willing to help you get through this..." I continued.

"Our love was wonderful. We were once happy and all I want is to just remember the good times that we had. I will cherish US Bree! You will always have a place in my heart..." I said with a smile.

"You promised me that you'll be waiting for me Blake..." Bree cried.

"I'm sorry but I can no longer fulfill that. I can only be your friend Bree... It's all that I can give..." I replied.

She took my other hand and begged, "One last chance B... Please... Kahit one day lang..."

I tighten my grip and replied, "Ayaw na kitang saktan pa kasi aasa ka lang. You're hurting already and wag mo ng hayaan na mabaon pa yung sarili mo... It's too late Bree... I waited for you to change your mind and choose me again pero I didn't feel na you really want me back. Remember I asked you after your experimental relationship. I even tried to let go of Charlie for quite some time, trying to wait for you to realize na baka ako talaga yung mahal mo pero wala na talaga eh. It may too harsh but the truth is si Charlie na talaga ang laman ng puso ko."

"Kaya ba you can't even touch me when I tried to..." Bree said.

"I can't bear it, Bree. Charlie and I may not be together yet at that time pero I already felt like I was already committed to her. Touching you will only make me feel guilty and I don't want to hurt Charlie not let you hope na talagang may chance pa tayo..." I explained before I glanced at Charlie.

She looked at me too and was shocked by what she just heard.

I moved my gaze back to Bree and said, "I'm in love with Charlie, Bree. And I will always choose her not just because we are now together but because I love her so much that I can't afford to lose her. Mahirap ipaliwanag pero sa sandaling panahon na hinayaan kong palayain ang puso ko, wala na itong ibang sinigaw kundi ang pangalan nya..."

"I'm really sorry Bree..." I said then gave her a hug. 

She started to blubber, "Blake please don't leave me... B... Please!"

I cupped her face and said, "I'm sorry. I know it hurts and it will, but I pray that one day you'll be able to accept it and find someone who's gonna love you more than I did. Someone who you won't let you go. Someone who will never get tired of loving you!"

She held my hand and tried to kiss me but I hugged her instead.

"You'll be okay... Tahan na..." I whispered.

I wiped her tears after I broke the embrace.

"Pahinga ka muna..." I said as I helped her lay her body and tucked her in bed.

I gently caressed her hair and smiled at her.

I asked her to close her eyes before I kissed her forehead.

She did close her eyes before I let go of her hand. I turned around and smiled at Charlie.

I took her hand and led the way outside of Bree's room.

We saw her mom patiently waiting in the living room.

"Tita, we have to leave. Let me know po if you need any help." I offered.

She smiled at me and said, "She'll be fine. We'll take care of her. Thank you Blake. Hindi ko man madalas sabihin pero masaya ako naging kayo ng anak ko. Naramdaman ko ang pagmamahal mo sa kanya na kahit sinasabi ng karamihan na mali, hindi ko magawang pigilan kasi ramdam kong tunay ang pagmamahal mo. Isa ako sa unang nalungkot ng maghiwalay kayo pero ngayon naiintindihan ko na. Sana maging masaya ka na. Andito pa din kami ng tito mo para sayo."

"Thank you din po tita. Hindi man po kami ang nagkatuluyan, asahan nyong andito pa din po ako para sa inyong lahat. Mahalaga po kayo sa akin lalo po yung ilang taong pinagsamahan natin." I sincerely replied.

"Muka namang maalaga itong si Charlie..." Tita commented with a smile.

"Sobra po!" I answered.

"Oh sya, mag-ingat kayo." Tita said.

"Thank you po uli." I said while saying goodbye.

Charlie and I walked out of Bree's house and so I drove away towards Charlie's place. 

"Is it true?" Charlie asked while I was driving on the highway.

I glanced at her waiting for which she is referring.

"You never had sex with Bree since you guys broke up?" She asked sternly.

I took her hand and squeezed it before I answered, "Never! It's only you that I made love with since. Hindi ko kaya doing it with her. Whenever I close my eyes, I can see your face and I don't want to see you cry over and over again because of me."

She lifts my hand and kissed it, "I love you..."

"I love you too love!" I replied.

"Bakit ba kasi naisip mo pang papiliin ako? Don't you trust me enough? Nagdoubt ka ba sa nararamdaman ko for you?" I curiously asked.

"No love... I didn't doubt your love - our love. Maybe I trust you enough that I know you'll choose me all over again... Tsaka kasi para tumigil na si Bree..." Charlie explained.

I just nodded and planted a kiss on her hand.

"Love?" I asked.

"Hmmmnnn?" She replied.

"I know this isn't ideal, but I need to ask you this now..." I said.

"Ano yun love?" Charlie asked.

I stopped in front of Charlie's house before I asked her.

I faced her and took her hands. I was a bit nervous so I took a deep breath.

"Charmaine Andrea Gonzales, would you like to spend the rest of your life with me?" I asked her wholeheartedly.
