i open my eyes and the sun is seeping through the curtain.

“morning,” a voice says. i jump and look to my left, seeing your face was next to mine and i smile at you.

“good morning.”

“did you sleep well?” you ask.

“to be honest?” i ask. you nod in response. “not really…”

“same,” you agree.

remembering last night’s confessions, i sigh deeply.

“everything’s gonna change, isn’t it?” you ask.

i stare up at the ceiling. “i hope not.”

silence follows as we think to ourselves until you speak up.

“i missed you,” you suddenly say, startling me. i take a sideways glance at you and you rest your arms behind your head, stretching out.

“huh?”

“when i was away, i missed you quite terribly.”

“you did?”

“i knew that each day i survived, was one day closer to seeing you…”

warmth pools in my stomach as love fills in the gaps of emotions i’m feeling.

“i missed you, too.”

you smile and you start to lean in, which makes my eyes go wide. i jump up out of impulse and run to the bathroom.

“you’re so—“

i run the water. “i can’t hear you, i’m brushing my teeth.”

“—strange.”

i smile in the mirror.

i missed you more than you could ever imagine.
