CHAPTER 11

"YOU MEAN...RIGHT NOW? Like tonight?" He blinked twice, confusion was written all over his face.

"Yes!" I nodded vigorously when I heard my name from behind. "Come on."

I didn't wait for his answer before marching towards his car. He was staring at me from the outside when I sat at the shotgun seat.

"What are you waiting for? Come on..." I urged him to come inside. It was pretty obvious that he's having a hard time believing that I agreed to his idea.

He slowly walked towards the car, taking his precious time while I sat there anxiously. My grandfather or dad was probably getting nearby now. Mahuhuli ako kung hindi kami aalis agad. Nang makapasok siya sa loob ay hindi pa niya binuksan ang makina, sa halip ay nagtataka siyang tumingin sa akin.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?"

"Oo naman, bakit hindi?" I tried to act as normal as possible. Pero nahirapan ako, sa pag-iisip na baka maabutan kami nina Lolo. "I'm sure, do—"

I quickly lowered myself at the seat when I saw a familiar figure not far from us.

"Shit." I whispered to myself.

Lorenzo's frown became deeper. "What are you doing? Bakit ka nagtatago?"

I risked taking a glance at the coming figures. "Tumakas kasi ako." I lied. "Baka sina Lolo yun, hinahanap ako. Kaya kung ako sa'yo, paandarin mo na yung kotse. Dahil sa oras na mahuli ako, damay ka."

"Ano? Bakit mo namang maisipang tum—"

"I'll explain later." I cut him off. "I promise. But right now, you need to start the car and drive out of here."

"Tsk, mayayari ako nito kina Mami Lah eh." He inserted the key on the keyhole and the engine roared to life. I was still keeping myself unseen when Lorenzo made a U-turn and drove off.

Napabuntong hininga ako ng makalayo kami sa amin. I was expecting that my dad would be tailing us, but I guess he chooses to stay and talk to my mom.

"Malayo na tayo. Pwede ka nang magpaliwanag." He sounds a little bit mad while driving.

I swallowed the lump in my throat before answering. "Kasi ano...naisip ko na minsan nga lang dumating ang mga ganitong pagkakataon. Kaya pumayag na rin ako. Carpe Diem nga diba. Seize the day, in this case. Let's seize the night."

"Pero bakit ka tumakas?" He glanced at me before returning his attention to the road.

I lied to him one more time. Ginalingan ko ang pagsisinungaling para maniwala siya. Alam ko na mali, but I have no other choice. He narrowed his eyes at me. I silently prayed that he would buy the things I've said. Thankfully, he did.

"I am so getting in trouble for this." An amused smile forming in his lips.

"Well then...I think it's only right to make the best out of it, right?" I managed to smile. "Hmm...may angal ka pa ba?"

Umiling siya bilang pagsagot. Umayos ako ng pagkakauppo. I tried ignoring the growing nervousness inside me. Did I make the right choice? Bahala na nga lang.

"Did you eat dinner already?" He suddenly asked.

"Kumain na ako kanina sa Clarks, but I think that's not considered as dinner. So, I guess no. Ikaw ba?"

"Di pa rin. Tamang tama. Magdinner muna tayo."

"Okay."

He effortlessly turned the car to the left. "Doon na rin natin pag-usapan kung paano natin susulitin ang pagkatakas mo ngayong gabi."
