Part 18

*next week Friday* *May 16th*

"Josie come downstairs please!" I hear my mom yell so I go downstairs.

"Yes?" I walk in the kitchen.

"Can you cook for your siblings please? I'm really tired" I nod.

"Of course" she gives me a small tired smile, kisses my forehead and goes to her room.

Sofie comes downstairs and goes to a room and comes out with Jake, since he was a in wheelchair.

"What do y'all want to eat for dinner? I'm cooking tonight" I say as they come in the kitchen.

"What is Jake eating?" Sofie asks.

"Well, ma usually cooks some scrambled eggs for him"

I look at Jake and I feel my eyes tear up.

I learned that a traumatic brain injury, can cause a personality change and it's going to take a really long time for him to fully recover.

I go over to him and kiss his cheek.

"Are you okay?"

"Y-yeah.." he whispers.

"Do you want to eat?"

"No.." I give him a small smile and stand up.

"Do you want to eat something Sofie?" she shakes her head no.

"If Jake doesn't eat, I won't either"

"Babygirl you need to eat"

"I'll eat tomorrow. Jake has to go to the hospital tomorrow?" I nod.

"You already know"

"Can I go?" she asks a small pout in her face.

"You'll have to ask mom. Jackie and me are taking him tomorrow. Ma works. Ask her tomorrow morning okay?" she nods.

"Is Alex going with us?"

"I don't think so baby"

"I want to see her"

"I know, but she works too" I sigh.

"Are you happy with her?" I hear Jake ask.

I smile.

"I am. She makes me happy" Sofie smiles and comes up to me and hugs me.

I hug her back and kiss her head.

*next morning*

I wake up at 8am.

I change into a pair of shorts and a shirt. I put my adidas on and go up to the mirror. I run my fingers through my hair and grab a jacket since it usually gets cold in the hospital.

I grab my phone and walk downstairs. I see Sofie in the living room and I go to the room Jake was staying in.

He saw me and he gives me a small smile.

I help him get dressed and put his shoes on.

I take him out of the room and go in the living room.

"Look who's here!" Sofie calls out and I see Alex between Sofie and Jackie.

"Babe what are you doing here?" She comes up to me kissing me and kisses Jake's head.

"I'm working at the medical center baby. I'm going to go with y'all and then head to work at 1pm" I smile.

"Thank you" she smiles.

*3 hours later*

It's now 11:27am. Jackie stayed with Jake, so I was with Alex and Sofie. Jackie told us to go get something to eat with Sofie and to just bring her something back.
