"that will be $19.67 ma'am"

"you didn't add the coupon,"

"Unfortunately it was expired, ma'am,"

"So?," The middle aged lady shot, taking off her 'Vouis Luitton' sunglasses. She eyed you, as if waiting for you to follow her orders. But you had had a number of customers like her, and you knew exactly where this self-entitled woman was going to take this

"The offer is no longer available," You calmly explained, waiting for that oh so glorious phrase you heard almost everyday

She scoffed, reached her arm up and put her sunglasses on again. Then, with a flick of her short, badly bleached bob-cut hair, she said the words her kind is infamously known to say.

"I'd like to speak with your manager,"

Of course, you couldn't be calling your manager over to your check-out 7 times a day, so you said the usual response.

"My manager is currently busy. If you'd like to wait by the bathrooms for him, you are most welcome to" You politely informed her.

At this, most Karens reluctantly paid and stormed off , dragging their poor kids behind them. But this one was one of the few who stayed. She rudely took the coupon from your hand and went to stand by the bathrooms next to her shopping cart.

You sighed, knowing this was not going to go well. Looking over to the lane in front of you, Thor have you a sympathetic smile as he scanned 54 cans of beans. Having Thor there to share your misery so you could both rant about the horrible customers after your shift helped you get through the day. So you went and got your manager, Phil, who had already gone through this 3 times this week. He, as you had, politely explained how the coupon could not be used anymore. As any Karen would respond, she claimed we were "accusing her of lying" and "being extremely rude". Eventually, after she yelled many insults at you and your manager, Phil kicked her out of the store.

After that, the rest of your day wasn't so bad. There were of course a few questionable customers, buying 30 lightbulbs and a single lamp, but no more crazy screaming ladies. There were a lot of kids that day, the calm kind not the tantrum kind. You liked that kind because you loved seeing them smile when giving them a 'thanks for shopping here!' Walmart sticker. Definitely the best part of your day. Thor also loved the little kids too, and he was so adorable when he was trying to make them laugh.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, closing time came and you and Thor cleaned up everything before heading out. You both grabbed some milkshakes from across the street, then shared the calm, quiet night together. Working at a supermarket sucked, customers treated you like trash and you didn't get paid enough. But you had found one person that treated you with love and gentleness, and thats all you really needed.
