"Um- John B? What exactly is the plan here."

Affinity hurried behind him, trying to keep up as he weaved through the crowds of people that were either arriving at the Outer Banks or leaving.

"We have to catch a ferry," he answered shortly.

Affinity's brows came together while her eyes followed a ferry that was exiting the harbor. She pointed at the boat. "That ferry?"

John B snapped his glance to where she was pointing. "No, no, no, no- shit!" He raced over to the man that was packing his bags at the table where the tickets were sold. "Hey, uh excuse me, sir. Wait, wait. Are you sold out?"

The man didn't even look at John B. "You're not the only one trying to get off the island," he said bluntly.

John B banged his fists on the table. "Damn it," he muttered. His eyes frantically searched their surroundings until they locked with something that caused them to widen. He grabbed Affinity's hand and started to drag her along. "Hey, follow me."

Affinity stayed close behind but, nonetheless, bumped into a few other people, then mumbling an apology every time she did so.

"Have you ever been on a tugboat?" He asked.

"Um, no?" Affinity replied.

"So, we gotta talk our way onto the barge." John B slowed his gait and checked over his shoulder. "Okay, stay here. Don't worry, I got this. These are my people," he rambled on as if he were trying to convince himself rather than her.

Affinity waved her hands in the air. "Okay, whatever, just go!"

Affinity folded her arms over her chest and waited for him. She watched his pitiful attempt at trying to convince the man. He looked over at Affinity, which she assumed was her cue to wave and smile innocently. The man just continued to shake his head, leaving John B with a defeated look on his face when he returned to Affinity.

Affinity cocked her head to the side with a smirk. "So, how'd it go," she sang.

John B adjusted his backpack on his shoulders. "So, they're booked."

"Glad you and your 'people' had such a nice talk," she mocked and held up air quotes.

John B threw his hands up in response. "What? You got a better idea?"

Affinity's eyes located two yellow rain jackets that hung on the wooden posts of the dock. "Yeah, I do."

After checking to see if anyone was watching them, she walked over to the jackets and took them off the posts. She handed one to John B and took the other for herself to put on. She then bent over to pick up two propane tanks that were sitting next to a couple of wooden crates. She handed the second tank to John B.

"Tank for you," she muttered as she pulled the hood over her head. "And let's go."

She turned to walk behind the crates, jogged down a staircase that led down inside the boat, and set her propane tank down. Affinity looked around quickly for a place they could store themselves for a ride.
