Ten began shaking his head. "Is this some kind of silly joke or something?" He said in doubtful agitation.
Both Mark and Johnny shook their heads.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Ten yelled at Johnny.
Johnny looked ashamed, "I promised him I'll let him do it on his own. I guess it became harder once you got together."
Ten covered his ears, "Why didn't he tell me...why couldn't he just..."
After pacing back and forth he dropped his hands. "I can't do it. Not your brother Johnny."
Johnny reached out his hand, "Don't do th–"
But Ten passed him by and headed for the exit. Johnny ran behind him and grabbed his arm. He knew that Ten was just scared to risk their friendship.
"You're not only going to break Hendery's heart but you'll break yours too."
Ten wiggled for his arm to be freed.
"Fine," Johnny said releasing him. "But can you really forget about him?"
Ten looked at Johnny and couldn't believe that he was in this situation once again. He wandered onto the street where it became dark again.
His heart ached.
