Today's the big day! It's mom's birthday. I am woken up after two hours of sleep by Char– I mean dad to help him and Jamie to cook breakfast. It's tradition.
"Hey sleepy head" James says to me
"I don't understand how you are so full of energy" I groan.
"Red bull" he says with a smile.
"Anyway, why didn't you sleep well?" Dad asks
"Oh nothing I guess I was too excited" I lie facing James.
He mouths 'What?'
I take out my phone and text
*You and 'miss not your girlfriend' kept me up all night with those moans and grunts...savages. These walls are paper thin.*
He answers
*Oh we were actually quiet last night. You should have came to join, would have been fun.*
My eyes widen at his text and he chuckles.
*I'm a donkey remember. It would be animal abuse.*
James and I let out small laughs then dad says
"What's funny?"
We don't respond then we get started on breakfast. We make bacon, eggs with avocado toast and guava juice. Its not that hard but the way James and dad suck at doing simple tasks I understand why we had to wake up early. I genuinely had fun doing this though. We had a little food fight, it was fun and reminded me of the ones my parents and I used to have. I ended up doing 65% of the work but the memories made are good.
Around 7 am we all walk up to the master bedroom. I carry the juice while dad carries the tray with food. James just walks ahead of us. He opens the door, dad and I walk in then he follows behind.
We start singing the birthday song softy and we wait for mom to wake up. She opens her eyes gently then smiles.
"Oh guys" she says sweetly.
"We are early this year" James adds.
"Wait...what? So what time do you two usually wake her up?" I ask.
"7:30" dad answers.
"Oh wow" I chuckle.
We give mom her food and she hugs and kisses us all. James and I walk out of the room to give them some privacy.
"Hey Erin" he says as I am by my door.
"What!" I say annoyed.
I'm sorry but I am sleep deprived!
"Thank you?" He says.
"Why should I thank you. After all you kept me up Jamie" I tease.
"No I mean uh thank you" he says rubbing the back of his neck.
I could tell he had never said those words to anyone and meant them, which makes me wonder does him looking nervous mean he meant them? I could also tell he was already uncomfortable so I decided not to torture him.
"Just be quite for the next 4 hours. That will do, I need to sleep" I say with a smile
"You got it" he said and I entered my room.

Its 6 pm and the guests for the party are starting to arrive. The party is being held in the garden. The scene is beautiful. I finally got charged up so I'm in a better mood now. I decided to wear a long lavender satin dress with a slit and I paired that with lavender heels with a few accessories. I did a slick hair do and put on light make up. I ordered a lavender pouch for my phone and the outfit was complete.
I go downstairs, walk into the kitchen and spot James. This is the first time I've seen him in something formal. He is wearing a black tax with a lavender shirt and a black tie. What the fuck? We are matching. Come to think of it dad is the one who suggested I wear lavender. Oh wow, I giggle to myself.
I walk over to him and say
"You clean up well."
"Not so bad yourself" he says and I smile.
"Prepared?" He asks.
"For?" I ask confused.
"The speech" he says loosely.
"What speech?" I say nervously.
"Yesterday I told you dad said you and I will give speeches today." He says.
"No you didn't" I softly scream.
"I did" he softly yells back.
"When?" I ask.
"Oh shit I forgot" he finally says after a few minutes on contemplating whether or not he told me.
This dick. I cannot believe him!
"Did you really forget or you just wanted to fuck me over?" I spit.
"I did forget. Today is mom's day our beef doesn't matter" he says with an emotion I can't identity.
I finally spot mom she's in a lavender ball gown with a very low v, its sleeveless and she pairs it lilac heels. She has on a beautiful diamond necklace and matching earrings. She has on a bond red lip and her hair is slick back like mine. Classic! After everyone settles down the party speeches start and guess who's first...Me.
Dad introduces me and I stand from the family table
"Good evening. It is a pleasure for me to be here and I will always be grateful. Mom you have been there for me and I really appreciate that. I'm here for you too. You truly are my bestfriend. Happy birthday and I wish you many more to come". I say then sit, applause follow after.
"Hey everyone. Thank you for making it, it's good to know there are people who cherish our mother just as much as we do. Mom here is to many more years, I cherish you greatly and you will always be my number one" James says and sits down, applause follow too.
Mom is smiling so much that her cheeks must hurt at this point.
Dad stands then says
"Give it up for our kids" people clap and we smile.
"Darling you are everything I could ever wish for and more. I have loved you for 24 years and I will love you 24 billion more. You complete me. I couldn't have been here without you. We are raising two beautiful kids and I am grateful. Without taking forever all I am saying is I love you and I will always love you till the end of time"
At this point mom is crying and she stands and gives dad a kiss. The crowd cheers and applaud, this moment moves me to tears. They are so happy.
"I thought you were tough E" James whispers in my ear
"I am a sucker for romance Jamie" I say as I wipe of my tears.
"Good to know" he responds
We give her our gifts and she breaks down again this time we have a big family hug. The party goes great. After the party we take family photos and they are beautiful.
After it all I go to my room. I decide to take a shower and call it a night. Man I'm tired.
