A true mother

chapter eight

 
At the hospital 
They arrive at the hospital 
“How can I help you?” The Nurse asked
“I have two kids with a fever Luke who has a 104-degree fever and Lyndy who has a 102 fever” Ty said 
Nurse hands Ty forms and has him fill them out 
 
About 20 minutes later they called back by the time they get back 
In the ER Room 
Lyndy fever has spiked to 103 and Luke is holding steady at 104 . 
The doctor walks in and does a flu swab on both of the kids . 
“I will get these results back as soon as I can” The doctor said 
Luke starts coughing like crazy,  the doctor quickly gets Luke on the bed and checks his lungs 
“I think Luke may have an upper respiratory infection” The doctor said 
“What does that mean?” TY asked 
“He needs a chest X-ray and may have to spend the night” The doctor said 
“Lyndy who has fallen asleep on Amy
Luke who sits up 
“I don’t want to stay here at the hospital” Luke said scared 
TY sat next to him
“If you do one of us will stay with you the whole time I promise” Ty said in a reassuring voice
The nurse walks in with a wheelchair
“I am here to take Luke for an X-ray” The nurse said 
“It’s ok go with her you will be right back” Ty said 
Luke stood up and immediately felt dizzy
“The Room is spinning” Luke said, and he couldn’t stand upright”
The nurse helps him into the wheelchair, and she takes him off 
“I am worried about him” Amy said 
“So am I” Ty said
The doctor walks in 
“I have good news” The doctor said 
“On who” Ty asked 
“On Lyndy her flu test is negative” Doctor said 
He examines Lindy 
“I think she has a 24-hour bug just keep hydrated and give her some fever reducer” The doctor said 
“What about Luke” Ty asked 
“His flu swab was positive” The doctor said 
“Great one kid positive and one kid negative” TY said 
“Lindy is ok to go home” The Doctor said 
“You want to keep Luke?” Ty asked 
“yes, I think his more than the flu” The doctor said 
“I will call Grandpa and I will take Lyndy home
Amy and Lyndy walk out 
Luke is brought back in 
About 20 minutes later 
Luke is lying in bed Ty is watching him sleep, The doctor walks in 
“I have his chest X-ray back and it does look like he has a upper raspatory infection I do want to keep him here over night. Are you his father?” The doctor asked
“I am his foster parent” Ty said 
“I will let you know when I have a room ready 
Ty walks out of the room and grabs his phone 
“Hey Amy, they want to keep Luke overnight he is having a hard time breathing. I will stay with him. I will call you in the morning” TY said 
 
About 2 hours later 
 
In Luke room 
Luke is sound asleep in the bed and Ty is asleep in the chair , Luke sits straight up coughing really hard and having a hard time breathing , the nurse rushes in , Ty wakes up and walks over
“What’s going on?” Ty asked 
“Luke oxygen levels have dropped he needs to be put on oxygen to help him breathe” The Nurse said 
“It’s ok buddy they are going to make you better” Ty said 
Luke can’t stop coughing, The nurse come back in hooks him up to oxygen and gives him a shot in the IV 
“This will help you stop coughing” The nurse said 
 
The next morning 
At Heartland 
 
In the kitchen
Jack drinking coffee, Amy walks in 
“Morning” Jack said 
“is it?” Amy said 
“How is Lyndy?” Jack asked 
“Her fever has gone down and I think she is feeling better” Amy said 
“How is Luke?” Jack asked 
“He has the flu and an upper respiratory infection. Ty said last night they had to put him on oxygen” Amy said 
“If you need to go be with Ty I can look after Lyndy” Jack said 
“Are you sure?” Amy said 
“yes” Jack said 
 
In Luke Room 
Amy walks in and Both TY and Luke are sleeping
