Year 2

The Chamber of Secrets

The four of us are running up the moving staircases trying to get back to the common room.

"It's a bit strange isn't it?" Hermione says.

"Strange?" Harry asks.

"You hear this voice only you can hear, and Y/N feels like she must go to that hallway to go to the dorms, and Mrs. Norris turns up Petrified. It's just strange." Hermione explains. I put the pieces together and realize that's how they got there.

"Do you think I should have told them? Dumbledore and the others, I mean?" Harry asks.

"Are you mad?" Ron somewhat shouts at Harry.

"No, Harry. Even in the wizarding world, hearing voices isn't a good sign." Hermione keeps walking up the stairs and we all follow.

The Next Day

We're all in Professor McGonagall's class, Transfiguration. I was sat next to Draco since I still was in a fight with Harry and Ron. Hermione forgave me the other day when I told her I didn't hear what Draco said when he called her a mudblood.

"Could I have your attention, please? Right. Now, today, we will be transforming animals, into water goblets." McGonagall said. Draco looked sort of interested, which surprised me. "Like so. One, two, three. Vera Verto." The bird that was once sitting on a stand was now a water goblet. It looked really interesting. "Now, it's your turn. Who would like to go first?" McGonagall walks down the steps to the platform she was standing on and stops at my desk. "Miss Moonlight? I hear you have different magic so try it with another spell."

I can feel all eyes on me and I remember an illusion spell I read about in my grimoire. I lift my hands over the bird on my desk and take a deep breath. "Phantamogriphia Decorum! " I say and the bird turns into a light pink and white Ombre decorated with stones and jewels. Everyone claps and she has Ron do it to his rat, but the water goblet turns fuzzy and has a tail. A fit of laughter can be heard in the classroom and I laugh as well.

"That wand needs replacing, Mr. Weasley." McGonagall says and turns to walk away from his desk but Hermione shoots her hand in the air. "Yes, Miss Granger?"

"Professor, I was wondering if you could tell us about the Chamber of Secrets." she asks. Hesitation was very clear in her voice and it surely surprised Draco but it looked like he wanted to know more too along with every other student who looked at her.

"Very well. You all know, of course, that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago, by the four greatest witches and wizards of all the age: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. Now, three of the founders coexisted quite harmoniously. One did not."

"Three guesses who." Ron said as he turned his head to Harry.

"Salazar Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students submitted to Hogwarts. He believed magical learning should be kept within all-magic families. In other words, pure-bloods." Professor McGonagall explained. She walked to the back of the class and everyone's heads were turned towards her except Draco. He was turned around, glaring at Hermione. "Unable to sway the others, he decided to leave the school. Now, according to legend, Slytherin had built a hidden chamber inside this castle, known as the Chamber of Secrets." McGonagall was slowly making her way back to the front, so everyone turned back forward in their chairs. "Though, shortly before departing, he sealed it, until that time when his own Heir returned to the school. The Heir alone, would be able to open the Chamber, and unleash the horror within, and by so doing, purge the school of all those who, in Slytherin's view, were unworthy to study magic."
