Chapter 9: Talk with Arcee and Jack and a spy

Emily was hanging out with Jack and Arcee at his house as she was helping him with another science project.

"Tell me again why you need to make a new science project, Jack?" She passed him the pipe for the motor as he was making it while Arcee was helping by giving him the tools he needed.

"Well, Ratchet wouldn't let us make our science project and he made them himself. The presentation didn't end well." He laughed in embarrassment as she giggled.

Optimus did mention that little incident earlier when he and Bumblebee were battling against someone called Skyquake. She then went into thought as she remembered that she helped Ratchet with the injuries they got last time and she used the liberty to redo their paint job. She smiled softly as she remembered how Optimus thanked her for her work as Bumblebee hugged her using his servo as thanks.

"Hello? Earth to Emily. Wake up." Jack waved his hand in front of her face as she snapped out of her daze.

"What?" She looked at him curiously.

"You've been zoning out for the past couple of days. Any reason why?" Arcee looked at her curiously as she thought back to her thoughts with Optimus and blushed lightly and shook her head.

"Y-Yeah! I'm okay." She laughed nervously but she gulped as she saw the knowing look on their faces.

"A-Anyway, I saw you trying to talk to that girl at school after class, Jack. You fancy her?" She raised a brow as she saw a blush appear on his cheeks as he struggled to answer her question.

Arcee told her that Jack has a love interest with one of the girls at school and she couldn't help but find it cute. She put her hands on Jack's shoulders and shook him a little.

"Dude, chill down. It's okay. Have you even tried to ask her out?" She asked him as she gave him a water bottle.

"I wish... I mean, I get so nervous around her that I always stumble around with my words and make a total fool out of myself." He took a drink from his water.

"Sometimes words are hard to say to someone you like or have a crush on. Better do it soon before you lose her completely to some other guy." She leaned against the wall as she had her arms crossed.

"Well, you do make a point. Other than that, any plans yet?" She looked at Jack in confusion as she didn't quite understand what he meant.

He rolled his eyes in amusement as he and Arcee shared a knowing look.

"Aren't you gonna tell Optimus how you feel about him yet?" Arcee hit a bullseye as she blushed a bright red, maybe an even brighter red than Knockout's paint job.

"W-What are you talking about, Arcee?" She laughed nervously as she tried to avoid optic-eye contact with them.

"Emily, we know that you feel something about Optimus. You seem more shy around him. He always smiles around or with you. And he's opening up more. Ratchet, Bulkhead, Arcee, me and Bumblebee saw the connection and put two and two together." Jack told her as she fidgeted nervously with her necklace.

Was she really that obvious with her crush on Optimus? Well from that they told her, she was really shy around Optimus. She always smiled back at him whenever he smiled back. Just the sight of the Autobot leader always makes her stomach feel like there's butterflies in them. But there was a drawback. He's a robot and she's a human. Even if she did tell him about her feelings, she knew that she would be just rejected since it wouldn't work between them. Just the thought of not being able to be around or not seeing Optimus made her heart feel like it was shattered into hundreds of pieces.

"Okay, you two got me. I do love Optimus. But it won't ever work out between us." She let out a soft sigh as she looked at her feet.

"Why not?" Jack asked her in confusion. Why won't it work between the two of them? There's nothing that can go between them... right? But from the look in her optic-eye and expression, it tells another reason.

"He's an Autobot. A robot being I'm just a human. It will never work between us, Arcee, Jack. I just... don't know how to approach this..." She shed a small tear as Jack felt sorry for her.

"Emily, if you do love Optimus, you shouldn't let the differences between you two keep you apart." Arcee told her as she kneeled down and wiped her tears away with a single digit as she looked up to Arcee.

"Yeah. I mean, so what if you're human and he's a robot. If it's love or destiny, you shouldn't let something like this keep you two apart. And who knows, Optimus might feel the same for you after all." Jack told her with confidence as he smiled at her.

She looked at them and saw truth in their optics and eyes. They're right. She shouldn't let the differences between her and Optimus keep them apart. And maybe, just maybe, Optimus will feel the same way.

"Okay. I trust your words." She smiled to them as they smiled back

For the last minute, they continue making the science project while Emily gives Jack advice on how to be himself around Sierra. She tensed up slightly when the hair behind her neck stood up as something or someone was watching them. She looked outside the garage but didn't see anyone. Jack called her over so they could continue. She gave the garage door one last look before continuing to help Jack with Arcee.

The thing that was watching them was none other than Laserbeak. Megatron told Soundwave to search and spy on their newest target to learn something about and how to use it against her. And they seem to have found just what they needed as Laserbeak flew back to the Nemesis to bring them news.
