Hearing her explanation, Jessie was taken aback. She dryly laughed before slowly asking, "W-what do you mean you don't feel love?"

Her eyes showed her disbelief, she absolutely couldn't imagine someone being unable to "feel love". she strongly believed that everyone was capable of loving, so even though she only recently found out that an entire species she thought were mere myths, were real, she still believed that Amara was able to love.

On the other hand, Austin felt as if Amara took his heart and crushed it in her hands. She couldn't feel love? Does that mean that the whole time they've spent together she didn't feel an ounce of affection towards him? He found it painful to know that only he was the one falling in love. He kept quite still trying to process this.

Amara blinked innocently, she felt a slight change in the room. She glanced at Austin and noticed that he looked little gloomy, "Did I say something wrong...?"

They couldn't answer her, instead, they could do nothing but awkwardly sit there as they listen to their alpha get rejected.

Then a soft chuckle filled the air. Clive deeply looked into Amara's eyes and confidently said "She loved me,"

She didn't know where his confidence stemmed from but Amara didn't look away and steadily held his gaze that looked like he was daring her to challenge him to say otherwise.

"What I want to know, is why she left,"

Amara continued to stare into his eyes before slowly answering, "After giving birth we return home,"

Lucas couldn't help but question "Do you come back?"

"I don't know... Some may, some may not," she said nonchalantly.

The little bit of hope that Clive held in his heart instantly disappeared and all that was left was disappointment. After both Clive and Austin became gloomy, the mood in the room quickly turned depressing.

They watched as Clive's eyes dimmed with hopelessness making them feel sorry for him. Losing the one you love and never being able to see them again... they couldn't even begin to imagine how painful that must feel.

As they drowned in their sorrow, Jackson's mind couldn't help but wonder if Amara had mated with a human before.

Crack

Jackson's eyes went wide, did he just say that out loud?! He wanted to turn his head and see how Austin reacted but something told him that if he were to do so then he wouldn't be alive tomorrow. the room turned chilly as goosebumps began to form on his arms.

Austin tightly clenched his fists to the point that he felt his nails almost tear through his palm. The thought of anybody else touching Amara made him red with rage; it took everything he had to push down the growing rage that was about to erupt from him. Sensing the change in their alpha everyone couldn't help but look at Jackson with hatred. Did he have to blurt out something so careless!?

"...no"

Austin stilled before breathing a sigh of relief. It looked like he no longer needed to hunt people down, but it was only a few moments later did he realise that they would have been dead anyway. Now, he felt like an idiot for forgetting a fact as important as his mate being a siren.

Hearing Amara deny that she hadn't mated with a human before slightly interested Jackson. I mean, she didn't look like someone who would abstain from such things which made him very curious as to the reasons why she would go against her nature. Could it be because of the bond? he wondered.

Unfortunately, he didn't have the opportunity to ask before Austin sternly told everyone "That's enough," this left no room for arguments.

"Since we're done here, I think it's best you guys leave for today," in other words, Austin was explicitly telling them to get out.
