Chapter 13

"Rosey!!" Jade screams my annoying nickname jumping on top of me. I roll over hoping to get away from her, but to my disappointment she moves with me. She starts to pull the warm covers away from me and I snatch them back up, using as much force as I can.

"Stop I'm cold" I whine

"Well maybe you should have worn some clothes to bed"

"I did" I whisper falling back asleep

"No those are pajama shorts and a tank top and no! No falling back asleep!"she says I whine loudly again "come on Rose get up! Your date is today and I doubt you have a cute dress to wear" she says

"Why would I wear a dress" I grumble, the side of my face smushed against the pillow making my voice sound weird.

"Why would you wear a dress" she scoffs "um hello you're going on a date!"

"So?" I ask wanting to go back to sleep

"So..."she draws out "you're wearing a dress and don't argue because I will win" I know it's true so I nod tiredly and she claps her hands "ok so get up"

"What time is it?" I ask

"10:30"

"Wow I was tired" I say astonished

"Hell yeah you were so come on I think I smell pancakes" she says with a happy smile. With that I lift myself up using my arms as support and sniff the air, and sure enough the smell of pancakes fills my nose making my stomach growl loudly.

Jade pulls me out of bed almost ripping my arm off and leading us into the tiny kitchen to find my mom flipping perfectly golden pancakes on the stove. Jade and I both lick our lips and hum in unison.

"Penny this look delicious" Jade praises, going over to my mother and hugging her a good morning

"Thank you dear" she says hugging we tightly

"Mornin' mom" I say walking over to her as well and kissing her cheek softly

"Mornin' sleepy heads, how did y'all sleep?" She asks

"Good" Jade says

"I thought I was going crazy when I didn't hear you girls, y'all were out by 9:30 last night, that's a first" my mother says laughing quietly

"Yup I thought Rose needed her beauty sleep for the big date tonight" Jade said looking over at me

"Is it today?!" My mother says excitedly, I blush a deep red and nod quickly "oh my I bet you're so exited!"

"You could say that" I say embarrassed

"Penny you really don't care that he's a teacher?" Jade asks "I don't, they are meant to be" I get the feeling there is more to what she is saying.

"No, he seems like a lovely man, and there's not a big age difference. Rose's father was five years older than me when we met" mom says

I snap my head to her and my heart beats angrily against my chest, I am instantly infuriated with the reference to him "Mom why the hell would you bring him in to this " I say angrily through my teeth

"I'm sorry honey I was just making a comment about the age difference" she says placing a loving hand on my arm "I know you don't like him-"

"Don't like!" I say bewildered "Don't like him! I hate the man! Did you forget the years of abuse? The hell he put us through or was it just me"

"Of course I remember Rose! I went though it two years before you were born!" She says loudly but not quite a scream, she lets out a sigh "all I was going to say was I know you don't like him-"
