Charon the Ferry Man

So hero hid in veil of dreams
That god to under world may bring
Him down to Hades realm through moat
That Charon sails on ferry boat.

Across the sweeping creek he rows
To take the dead to down abode.
In realm where Hades god most dread
Does set on throne as lord of dead.

To banks of Styx they quickly fly
Where all must wait who've recent died.
For Charons boat to reach its dock
Amidst the shores own craggy rocks.

Their stood they long on shore with dead
A sight that filled his heart with dread.
And further deep in cloak he stood
Before a ship of palest wood

Did peak through mist for all to see
The ferry man had come for fee.
His eyes as fire burning bright
That dare the dead to try and slight

The rower grim of charge he sought
And all that golden coins had brought
Did step to pay the ferry man
For fam'lies made their dying plans.

And buried kin with coins on eyes
In hopes they crossed as soon as died.
When Charon took the privileged few
Aboard as haunted ghostly crew.

The many left did weep and moan That shores of Styx their force to roam

The many left did weep and moan
That shores of Styx their force to roam.
Until they serve a hundred years
On shore that's watered well with tears.

Then Somnus steps to rowers side
In garb of god still hero hides.
"I bid you ferry god to deep
To underworld where many sleep.

For Somnus realm there also lies
Where souls of men in slumber bide.
Along with many laying dead
There souls to Hades being fed.

To face their judgement deep in cave
As all most do once laid in grave."
And Charon nods without a word
Then god from shore is quickly spurred.

As two do travel down to keep
Of Hades king of pit so deep.
