The Trial on Mount Olympus

On mount of gods a councils held
Of chief divines that number twelve.
Who've come to judge the godlings crimes
And punish man that's half divine.

His jurors sat on golden thrones
With table made of marble stone.
Their godlike forms in noble dress
And Zeus proceedings quickly blessed.

"No man that mortal realm now trods
Can halt the wrath of demi-god.
Nor bring the man to justice fair
From wilder lands he chose as lair.

As gods we must decide his fate
For only gods can bear our weight.
And force our will on half divine
To punish man for wicked crime."

And Mars the god of war then spoke
"The laws of men and gods he's broke.
He slayed his kin in coldest blood
In fury wrought like rushing flood.

I bid allow me smite this knave
Who sent his family down to grave.
I'll go to waste and strike him dead
To beast of wilder places fed."

Then Athene goddess wise does rise
To have her say in councils eyes.
"It's strange he slew his family dear
Destroying home he built for years.

No prelude warned of violent rage
Nor wounded pride did set the stage.
For murder wrought on closest kin
No motive held to commit this sin.

I bid you further thought to take
Before deciding hero's fate.
I sense some mischiefs hand at play
When family demi-god did slay."

And Hera patron god of man
Whose trial before the gods does stand.
Did speak her peace in council hall
And urged the gods to head her call.

"Instead of slaying mortal meek
Whose strength before the gods is weak.
Allow him first a chance to win
Reprieve for all his wicked sins.

I bid you lend him chore from gods
So mortal realm we hate to trod.
May keep it state without our help
And orders held where men now dwelt."

The gods in council hear her plea
With goddess judgement all agree.
But Hermes god of pranks and roads
Did speak his mind and gods did goad

At time he bore no will that's ill
But causing problems his greatest skill.
"Why only perform a single chore
A dozen gods set on this board.

I think that labors twelve is right
For demi-god so great in might.
And further make them hard as well
Discourage future crimes with hell.

Let's grant the king of Tyrne his reign
He sure to bring the killer pain."
And gods agreed to Hermes plan.
With fire test the killing man.

But Hera knew the task were death
The king of Tyrne was cruel and deft.
