Rosaline
After our stop at the café, we left with a bag of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I swing our locked hands back and forth while feeding both Nicholas and my cookies.
"We should visit that café more often, " I told him, taking a huge bite out of the cookie. The melted chocolate making me hum in delight.
"If it makes you happy then we can go there whenever you like."
"You're the best!"
It has been only two days since we started dating but Nicholas was keeping his promise very well. He always made sure I was happy. The opposite of when we first met each other.
"Nicholas is that you?" A feminine voice called out.
I look at him with a confused look and he gave me the same facial expression before turning around. He staggered back, detangling his hand away from mine as a young lady jumps into his arms. His eyes widen, panic on his face as he looked at me and quickly maintain his distance from the lady.
She looked at him confused before looking in the direction he was looking at. And that landed on me.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't notice you there."
I was about to tell her that it was okay when Nicholas cane to my side and said, "you should be more careful next time, Rachel. You could have seriously hurt her."
The sparkled in her eyes dim down, her gaze falling on Nicholas's arm before back at us again. A smile brightening her face when she looked at us again.
"You finally have a girlfriend!"
I felt a tug and was immediately pulled closer to him. I look up at him and saw a big smile on his face, "Rachel meet Rosaline, my girlfriend. Rosaline meet the owner of the café we just went to."
My ears perked at that, "really? Wow, I love the cookies there!"
She gave me a small smile then bring her attention back to Nicholas, the look in her eyes made my heart squeeze. I bit my bottom lip feeling an aching feeling. We barely started dating and I'm already feeling some odd feelings.
I munch on the cookie in silence as I watch the way she elegantly brushed her hair behind her ear. The way she smiles widely at Nicholas and the glimmer in her eyes. All my negative thoughts vanished when I took a look at Nicholas. He was calmly talking to her, glancing at me every so often. He gave me a smile when he saw me look at me.
Nicholas wouldn't get bored of me already, I told myself when I saw the way he looked at me.
I no longer felt worried and happily ate my cookies in peace.
"It was nice seeing you again, Rachel. But it's time for us to leave, " Nicholas said, locking our hands again.
"Oh. Do you think we can meet again tomorrow night to catch up?" She asked him.
"I'm sorry but I have plans with Rosaline tomorrow."
Her eyes fluttered a bit, "Oh. I see, maybe some other time?"
"I'm not sure. I'm quite busy, plus I want to enjoy all my free time with Rosaline."
My stomach fluttered at his words as a small smile graced my face. It disappeared when we said goodbye and Rachel's eyes lingered on me a bit longer than necessary.
"I get strange vibes standing next to her, " I muttered as we walk back to the car.
He stopped making us both stop just a few feet from the car as he turns to me and places both of his hands on the side of my arms. He made me look up at him making all of my emotions visible to him.
"Do you not like her?"
I bit my lip as I shake my head, "no. That's not what I'm saying. Just...what if you realize I'm not enough." Insecurity was washing over me again.
He pulled me close and pat the back of my head as he spoke, "never say that again. You're everything for me."
"How do you know? We just know each other for two months."
"Even so, you mean a lot to me. Two months, two years. I still felt a connection with you. Don't feel overwhelmed by her, no one will make me feel the way you do. No one will blush the way you do or fight with me the way you do." He pulled away and cupped my face, "you're my little rose. The only rose that will be sticking with me for the rest of my life."
"Is that a proposal speech?" I joked.
He laughed and patted my head, "if you want then yes. But you always got to stay confident in yourself and know that no one is breaking us apart any time soon."
I smiled at him and grabbed his hand again, "we just started dating but you're the best boyfriend ever."
He leans down to where both of our noses were touching as he smiles back at me, "glad to know, rose."
