"I like digging holes and hiding things inside them
when I grow old I hope I won't forget to find them"

"Passengers of flight 487, please board. I repeat, passengers of 487, please board your plane as it will be leaving shortly." A woman's voice echoed throughout the airport halls, sounds bouncing off the walls and into the large spaces. Only a few heads lifted from their distractions, whether it was their children or their phones keeping their attention, to listen to the words. My thighs made a loud ripping noise as they parted from the plastic chair that had homed me for the last few hours. white knuckles had replaced my warm toned ones as I strode towards the entry door.
"Five years?"
"Can I see your plane ticket and ID ma'am?" handing over my ID was a luxury I hadn't felt in months, "Irina Lada? Welcome aboard." Of course when I do it isn't my birth given name. The lady handed back my ID, wiping her white gloves off on her skirt as if I had some sort of disease she was afraid to contract. One singular suitcase was all I could afford to take with me, one that fit inside the small cabinet above my seat.
First class was not a option either. Staying under the radar was key to survival. Avoiding cameras like the plague was something I hadn't had to worry about before, but now it seemed like something that was dire in order to secure my freedom. everything that had never been an issue for me had become important to follow to a T.
"You have five years Elvira, That's not that long considering how big the world is," Marco leaned against the seat of the limo, spreading his legs apart in attempts to show some sort of dominance that he no longer had over me.
Minutes turned to hours, hours turned to long lines waiting to go through airport security. tedious procedures that I had already gone through once prior that day. Taxis passed by, my outstretched arm begging one, just one, to stop by and welcome me into the backseat away from the frigid temperatures. Eventually one answered my prayers, and I was welcomed into the stuffy backseat that smelled of cigarettes and sex. "Kuda ty idesh', kloroshen 'kaya ledi?" booze swarmed into my senses the second the mans lips opened. It nearly knocked me out just by the smell, meaning surely he had been drinking within the previous hours.
(Where are you heading pretty lady?)
It would have been wise for me to just walk, or wait for another taxi to come save my feet from frostbite but after hours on a plane and little patience left in my jar I gave in. "Timit Street, please." a cough followed my words, the tip of my nose was so frigid It began to be painful. Eyes wandered to mine before the car began to move. Each bump in the road was another bubble of anxiety in my stomach that popped. Even while in a moving car I couldn't help but look behind me as if he'd be there waiting for me to notice.
"Five years is an eternity Marco, can't you limit it to one? Your resources are unlimited while mine will be completely cut off. Don't you think this is a bit unfair on my part?" My hands shook in my lap, it was unclear if it was because I was holding back tears or because I was so angry.
