"She makes up her own rules

She never looks back"

Elvira

I drew a red line across the date on my calendar. Never had I used one before, usually it wasn't that hard for me to keep track. Nor was there ever anything that I looked forward to enough to need a calendar to count down the days to. Yet here I stood now, drawing red X's over each day that passed without my discovery.

"What are you counting towards anyways?" two arms moved around my waist, the overbearing smell of cologne filling my nostrils. "Ever since I've known you, you've been counting down the days. Yet its been two years since you've been here and you haven't reached it yet?" His nose poked against my neck, my shoulder hitting against his jaw in attempts to knock him off. "Ow!" he stepped away quickly.

"Mind your own business moron, Did you ever think that maybe I just like knowing the date?" He poked out his bottom lip, trying to win me over with a pout. It was useless though, his expressions were futile against me.

"Why are you always so mean towards me? I give you all my love yet you just kick me to the curb every chance you get." He crossed his arms and huffed out hot air. I only laughed, shrugging off him once again. "Come on Elvira, throw me a bone!"

"Go home, you smell like a wet dog. Take the day off and come back after you've wanked off enough to take care of little Johnny there." I motioned to the seam of his pants, where his member pressed against his jeans. It was pressed against my back only moments earlier, which was how I knew it was even there to begin with.

The apples of his cheeks turned a dark shade of red, his hands moving to shelter his erection from my eyes. It was in vain though, I had already seen what I needed to. Not that there appeared to be much to see. "Why do you always point them out?! Cant you be a normal girl and pretend to not notice it?" He whined, his hair falling into his face.

"Oh dear, I'm far from normal." I moved past him and down the creaky spiral staircase. I needed to have it replaced, seeing most of the steps were rusted. Only one person could climb at once, and you had to be cautious when doing it as well.

There had been times when it would nearly disconnect from the top of the railing. Alexei had tried to fix it multiple times before, but he was going to college to be a writer not an engineer.. or anything even remotely close to being able to fix my goddamn stairs.

"Seeing you aren't offering me a cold shower I suppose I have no choice but to return to my apartment.. asshat." A grumble formed the last words of his sentence. It was more than loud enough for me to hear, and more than loud enough to piss me off.

"What did you just call me?" I picked up a hard covered book, and held it up in the air as if I was getting ready to toss it. The look in my eyes was more than a warning to him.

He unlocked the front door quickly, grabbing his spare key off the wall and flashing me a charming smile. "Nothing! Goodbye now!" I threw the book at him with all my effort, effort I never used in high school dodge ball unless the person I hated was on the opposing team. He had moved out of the way long before I could reach him, instead it hit a woman in the head.

It took me only a second to reach her, my apologies already building up inside my head. When I noticed she was the same woman from before, I began to panic a bit more. Her Hijab had slightly come undone, the fabric now exposed more than an inch of her hair to the rest of the world.

Quickly I pulled her inside and shut the door, hovering over her and attempting to help her adjust the fabric so that her hair was hidden once again. Constant apologies flooded from my mouth like a overflowing damn. "Are you alright? I'm so sorry, it was meant to hit someone else.." someone I'd absolutely murder later for making me loose my bloody shot. I couldn't believe he'd move out of the way knowing damn well the book would have hit someone else.

"It's fine, no worries." She said once her hair was hidden from sight. Slender fingers moved along her hijab, making sure not a single hair was out of place. "I'm sorry to bother you so early, it's just that I'm leaving Russia tonight and I needed another copy of the Quran. My boss, he spilled coffee all over my previous one.." I helped her to her feet, and watched as she pulled the coffee soaked book from her bag of belongings. Whoever her boss was, he was a major dick. An even bigger dick for not coming to exchange the book himself.

"Of course, we have plenty to spare. How about this time it's on the house? You know.. considering I nearly gave you a concussion and almost exposed you to the world." I walked towards the fiction section and removed the holy book from its place. When I turned around she stood right behind me, a smile plastered across her face.

"Are you sure? It's my fault for not observing where I was going." I nearly laughed at the poor soul. Perhaps it wasn't my fault, as she insisted. However it wasn't her fault either. The only things we were willing to blame were gravity. And the asshat Alexei.

"Positive. It's definitely not your fault, but mine. I should know better than throwing hardcover books around my house. My mom taught me better." The smile began to fade at the mention of my mother.

I hadn't heard from her in ages, not that it was like she knew where I was. The whereabouts and well-being of my family remained completely unknown. It was the price I had to pay for ever going to Italy to begin with.

"No worries, really. This book is more than enough to make up for the accident. Thank you again, Elvira." She quickly left the store, the bell chiming behind her as the door opened and closed. Though her leaving the store wasn't my big worry, or even what had me frozen into place.

How did she know my name?
