Carlisle operated night shifts in a Chicago hospital throughout the Spanish influenza epidemic. Dorothea would seldom follow and help him around with patients but most of the time she would lock herself in their house due to the many people in the hospital that she couldn't take the smell of human scenting blood. The man has evolved over his sad state of forsaking his mate behind and that makes Dorothea very festive for him.

Tonight, however, Dorothea has determined to assist around the hospital since Carlisle told me that the hospital won't be as busy as before. While she and Carlisle went on separate ways since he was requested by another doctor, Dorothea resolved to walk around with pity seeing as most of these patients are going to die as it's written in their fate.

Dorothea stops in her track when she hears a woman calling out to her with tears streaming down like a river. Dorothea could discern she won't make it by tonight. Walking closer to her to aid ease the pain Dorothea got a look at her name on the clipboard Elizabeth Masen.

The woman had held the hand of another patient that is hardly breathing next to her, by the look of her eyes Dorothea could tell that the young man she was holding is her son.

Seeing Dorothea's compassionate look made her brawl out more tears. Shocking the girl silently. Her begging to save her son defeated Dorothea, she doesn't want her to leave in such pain, so taking off her leather gloves to gently touch the older woman's forehead.

Electricity shot through Dorothea making her eye turn slightly white as she took over her mind performing Elizabeth to take a calm and deep breath.

Dorothea saw every memory she had, how Elizabeth prayed every night that the war would be over before her son reached 18, how her lover and son fell victim to Spanish influenza, and lastly how she doted on her son and ruined her own chances of living by nursing him but sadly when Dorothea look into her future it was blank meaning that only minutes left or second before she greets death.

Thanks to unbelievable vampire hearing, Carlisle was quick to enter the room and close the door to witness the young girl's powers.

It was his first time seeing Dorothea in action than the tales Volturi had told him about clearly, he was amazed as Elizabeth follow her soft whispery command to calm down and take a deep breath.

Her death isn't far so Dorothea made her close her eyes relaxing her mind before the reaper could take her, she spoke her last few sentences. "You must do everything in your power. What others cannot do, that is what you must do for my Edward."

Carlisle and Dorothea can't hear her thumping heart any longer, moderately their eyes linger on the young boy on the other hospital bed. His breathing is slowed down by the second, looking at Carlisle's eyes Dorothea knew he sympathizes with the boy as he would no longer have a family to lean on, and that was what encouraged him to step up and bit into his skin spreading his venom on the Edward boy.

Dorothea chose to look away scared that the scene is going to tempt her for human blood as she leisurely wore back her black leather gloves.

Carlisle brought Edward to their home where Edward took his time to change to a vampire, just like Elizabeth's wishes for her son. Carlisle had provided Edward with the kind of love and bond that his real father did not, and Edward thinks of him as the best parent anyone could have.

While Carlisle embraces his son unconditionally and thinks very well of him, Edward does his best to live up to his father's expectations. Since Carlisle took the role of Edward's father Dorothea took as his younger sister much to her dismay.

Dorothea's relationship with the new vampire was hard at first but over time they grew a solid bond where he becomes overprotective of the lad. When he found out about her relationship with the Volturi he wasn't satisfied but didn't stop Dorothea's action of going back every 5 months.

Dorothea was the first to detect Edward's powers when he would answer questions she never spoke of or when she talk back about him in her head. Carlisle found it amazing to have two great vampires as his children and he studied their powers. Unlike when Dorothea was in the Volturi. She told them about her hidden powers of seeing someone's future as in what will they become and how they would die.

Carlisle agrees such a thing should be kept as a secret within the Cullens only and that Dorothea should only tell them when someone's future is in trouble other than that just keep it to herself.

Dorothea honestly likes having Edward around despite the argument they had and sarcastic remakes about each other. He is the only sibling that Dorothea had that wasn't mean and fully hated her as Caleb did. Even if Dorothea doesn't say it a lot, she likes having Edward as her older brother with all her heart.
