Amnesia

28. Paris

“Who do I owe this time?” Devan asked, looking down the line of his four friends.

Each of them shook their head when he looked to them.

“Did I magically save myself?” He asked.

“It was Scout,” Kyle told him.

“Scout?”

They all turned to me and Nate motioned for me to come in. At first I flinched back when he waved for me to come forward, and then I slipped inside, quickly moving to the side away from all of them.

“What is wrong with you?” Devan asked me from where he was laying on his bed.

I just looked down at my feet.

“Scout, answer me. And look at me when I’m talking to you.”

I flinched at his voice even though he wasn’t near yelling. I peeked up at him.

“What’s wrong?” He asked.

Before I answered, Will moved to lean up against the wall near me, so I moved away from him into the corner of the room. I started to feel trapped because if I moved anywhere else, I would be too close to any of them for my comfort.

“Scout.” Devan was still waiting for my answer.

“I- I’m just…just not feeling well,” I said quietly.

“Does Will need to have a look at you?”

“No!”

I received strange looks at my outburst.

“We aren’t going to hurt you, Scout,” Devan said. “Just calm down.”

I started to shake from being so close to this many males. I slid to the floor and tried to make myself smaller. When Will knelt in front of me, I freaked out. I screamed and kicked him away from me, jumping to my feet and searching for a way out that didn’t require going past the other boys.

“Scout!” Devan shouted, trying to sit up, but he groaned in pain and lay back down.

“Dev, I told you that you have to stay lying down and to limit your movements,” Will said to him as he got to his feet.

“What is wrong with you?” Devan asked me.

I pressed myself into the corner, hoping to just disappear or become part of the wall.

“Devan!” Suddenly Melly came bursting in. “Oh my God are you alright?” She sat next to him on the bed. “They wouldn’t let me see you earlier.”
