OWEN'S POINT OF VIEW

"What was that?!" I shouted at Devan.

"Scout!" Sarah cried and ran to her.

Scout was lying face-down on the ground, unmoving.

"Scout, come on!" Sarah shook her. "We need to go."

"Sarah," I pulled her to her feet. "Go with Mum to the car."

"Is she going to be okay?"

I didn't answer.

Once they were all in the car, I turned to Devan who hadn't moved.

"What is wrong with you?" I asked him.

He didn't say anything.

I knelt down next to Scout and rolled her to her back. I couldn't tell exactly where she was shot, but blood was coming nonstop. I was surprised when her chest rose and fell with a pained breath. She wasn't dead... yet.

I put pressure over the wound in an attempt to try to stop the flow of blood. I need to get her to Will. I took the dress off of her because it was just going to get in the way and then carried her to the other car that Devan was supposed to be taking. I lay her in the back seat and then went to the other car.

"Just follow me, okay?" I told them. "Wendy, can you come help me?"

Wendy sat in the back of the car with Scout, keeping pressure on the wound as I drove.

Scout somehow survived the trip to London and as soon as I get there, I brought Will out to the car.

"Okay, first of all, why would you not take her to a doctor in Chicago?"

"I- I don't know. I don't know any doctors there that I could trust."

"You're lucky she made the trip. And I can't do this," He said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I don't know enough or have the equipment to be able to take care of an injury like this. We'll have to bring her to the hospital."

"I don't think she'll make it."

"I can tell you that she is very lucky. The shot was a bit high and off center, so it hasn't damaged her heart or lungs. She will make it to the hospital, though I don't know how long after."

I immediately got back in the car with Will and Wendy as well. I drove as fast as I could to get her to the hospital. Scout was quickly taken into surgery. They told us to go home because it was going to be a long operation.

Despite how sad I was about Scout, I was happy. My family was safe. I hugged them all as soon as I got back to Devan's house. But then we all paced around nervously.

Devan arrived a short while later. When I saw him, I could tell that he wasn't the least bit affected by what he had done. He questioned why we were all waiting around, but in the middle of hearing the explanation, he went upstairs.

It wasn't until lunch the next day that the hospital called. Nate, Will, and I went to the hospital while Kyle stayed behind with the girls and to try to talk to Devan.

"How is she?" Nate asked as soon as we got there.

"She pulled through the surgery just fine," The doctor told us. "But we are keeping her asleep for a little while to help her injury start healing."

"So she's going to be alright?"

"Well, we don't know if she'll wake up."

None of us three knew what to do with this information.

"When will you know if she will wake up?" Will asked.

"We won't ever know if she is going to. It's just that if she wakes up after we take her off the medication, then she's going to be alright. We aren't able to tell if she will wake up, or know how long she'll be asleep if she doesn't, but there is a chance that she won't wake up at all."

"Meaning she died?"

"She'll still be asleep, but after a long time, it would be easier to just let her go."

We just nodded.

"Can we see her?" I asked.

"Right this way."

The doctor led us to one of the rooms where Scout was laying on the bed. The room was silent except for the machine keeping track of her heartbeat.

KYLE'S POINT OF VIEW

"Devan, open the door or I'll break it down," I threatened.

He opened the door and came out into the hallway. "What do you want?"

"Why did you shoot her?" I asked.

"I didn't want an enemy over there," He answered.

"You didn't even let her explain. And now Will just texted me that she's in a drug-induced coma and might not wake up."

"Explain what? What is there for her to explain? Did she want to explain why she played me like that?"

"She did it to save you! Marcus was going to kill you if she didn't make it convincing that she didn't have any feelings towards you and make you leave. She was just as hurt by it as you were."

He was shocked, but then glared at me. "You're lying."

"I am not. She told Nate who told me, Will, and Owen. She just pretended to be mad at you and made everything up to convince Meselva. She also told Melly to tell you about where Marcus was going to be so you could kill him. Plus, do you really think that she would come all the way back here to talk to you if she really had felt that way?"

Devan leaned back against the wall and ran his fingers through his hair. "Oh no."

"Should we go visit her?" I asked.

He nodded.

We told the girls that we were leaving before driving to the hospital. We let Devan alone in the room.
