"I got it, Kichi." Alex was sitting on a log next to her unicorn. "After this, everything will be okay. I'll be here more, and I won't be so sad. Everything will be back to normal." She looked at the vial in her hand. "But there are risks. It's totally untested, and nobody's double checked my work and it's only been two months of working. That's not nearly as much time I should have spent on a potion of this potency. One mistake and this could just as easily kill me as it could take away my memory of Cedric." Kichiro sniffed at the potion in her hand. "I know, but I need to. He's everywhere, and I'm barely surviving two months at Hogwarts. I don't think I can survive the rest of the year like this."

Alex took a deep breath and took out the stopper on the vial. "It's okay. It'll be fine. I've double checked my own calculations. The potion itself is fine. I trust myself. Which brings us to the second problem. It's technically a two person job. One wrong move, and I could end up forgetting how to walk. Or even talk. Oh don't look at me like that. If this doesn't work properly, I'm leaving my notes on it here. That way Hermione will know what happened. And if it does, I've left a little note for myself in here." Kichiro snorted disapprovingly. "I'll be fine. These are just for the worst case scenarios. Like the worst worst case. Besides anything worth anything requires risk and sacrifice, and if I want to be able to survive Hogwarts, I need to forget him. Okay, here goes."

With one swift movement, she held the vial to her mouth and gulped down the potion. For a moment, nothing happened. "Well, that was anticlimactic." She said, before slumping forth and falling off the log.

Kichiro squealed in panic and Venus came over. She nudged Alex but Alex stayed unconscious. She stomped her feet and looked down worriedly. Kichiro turned and ran, returning a second later with Saphira in tow. Saphira took a look at Alex and attempted to reach her mind but the young girl stayed asleep. Saphira let out a loud roar.

Upon hearing the dragon from her class, Hermione knew something was wrong. She excused herself and ran out to the forest, finding that Laila and Luna had the same idea. They rushed to Saphira's camp and found it empty and headed to the unicorn clearing next. Saphira was bent over an unconscious Alex.
"Alex!" Hermione dropped to her friend's side, tapping her cheek in an attempt to wake her up but she was out cold. Hermione looked at the vial on the floor and the book she'd seen Alex carrying around making notes in lately. "Oh, Alex. What did you do?" Hermione sniffed at the empty vial, but didn't recognise the potion. She smelled poppy and recalled the conversation she had with Alex months ago about forgetting. She opened the book and looked through Alex's notes.

"What are you doing? We need to get her to Madam Pomfrey!" Laila said.

"I'm trying to see what she did." Hermione said. "She drank a potion she invented. She was trying to forget Cedric."

"She wouldn't be that stupid." Laila said. "Would she?"

"She's been really upset lately. Okay, we're going to have to carry her." Hermione sat Alex up. "Laila get her other side, Luna get her legs."

It was a little awkward but they managed to get back to the school carrying Alex and all the way to the hospital wing. Madam Pomfrey was tending to a fourth year who'd tried to magically tan herself and ended up turning herself bright orange. Madam Pomfrey looked up as they entered.

"Misses Granger, Shafiq, Lovegood. What is the meaning of this?"

"It's Alex." Hermione said as they deposited her into a bed. Madam Pomfrey walked right over.

"What on earth happened?" Hermione glanced warily at the fourth year. Madam Pomfrey nodded understandingly. "A dose of this and you should be fine." She dismissed the girl who drank the potion, and turned back to normal. She left really slowly, hoping to overhear what had happened but Madam Pomfrey shooed her out as she checked on Alex. Hermione waited for the girl to leave before starting.

"She took a potion." Hermione said. She gave Madam Pomfrey the notebook and the empty vial. "I think the ingredients and measurements are all in here. She personally made it. I think it's a memory potion." Madam Pomfrey took the book.

"Miss Shafiq, please go call your head of house. Tell him it's an emergency. Miss Lovegood, please call in the headmaster. The password to the office is 'Fizzing Whizbees'." Laila and Luna ran out. "Miss Granger-"

"I'm not going anywhere." Hermione said.

"I need you to inform Professor Sprout."

"I'm not leaving her." Hermione stood her ground. "Not until she's awake and okay."

"I thought as much." Madam Pomfrey said, still looking through Alex's notebook. "I think it's a new record. She managed to go a whole year without a severe injury."

"Is she going to be okay?"

"I'm sure she will. I'm reluctant to administer any potions in case it has any adverse reactions. We'll have to wait for Professor Snape."

"She did it because she couldn't handle Cedric being gone." Hermione spoke up. "She was sort of better lately, and I thought maybe she was dealing with it."

"You couldn't have known."

"She said she wished she could obliviate her memory of him." Hermione said. "But she said she wouldn't. That she couldn't, anyways. I should have realised she would have turned to potions. That's her specialty, and if spells failed her, of course she would turn to potions. I should have known that. It's obvious and I should have realised."

"You care about Miss Weasley, that much is very obvious." Poppy said reassuringly. "But you are not responsible for her." Hermione wanted to deny that. She was the only person Alex had left that she could trust completely. If Hermione didn't look out for her, who would? She was cut off my Snape's arrival.

A/N- heh, oops. Alex is so not over her grief. Anyways, enjoyyy.

Favourite line is "Well, that was anticlimactic." She said, before slumping forth and falling off the log.
