Draco snuck in moments after Ron left. He saw Alex crying and frowned.
"If you teach me that hex you used on me second year, I could go hex that idiot brother of yours." He spoke up. She quickly wiped away some tears.

"Hey, Draco." She said, ignoring his comment.

"What did he say to you?" He glared angrily.

"Nothing. Forget it, please. How are you?"

"It's not nothing if you're crying."

"It's not him." She said. "So leave it." He didn't look convinced but nodded. "I have my memories back."

"Oh, thank Merlin. Without memories, you're almost as dull as your siblings." He complained.

"Hey!"

"You were all righteous and judgey."

"To be fair, you insulted my mother."

"Details." He dismissed and Alex grinned. "So, how'd you get your memories back? And, how did you lose them in the first place?"

"Is this you asking or your father?" Draco had the decency to look guilty. "Yeah, it's okay. I know. I mean, I'm not going to tell you, but I'm not mad at you. We're still friends."

"Why are you okay with it?"

"He's your dad. I get it. Besides, I have faith that when it comes to it, when you get to actually choose of your own volition, you won't let your bloodline dictate who you'll be. You're a good person, Draco. At least, you have the potential to be." He nodded.

"Why does he ask me about you all the time?"

"Maybe he's looking to marry you off." Draco gagged and she grinned.

"Don't be disgusting." He said.

"Maybe he wants you to indoctrinate me with death eater beliefs and have the weight of the Weasley name on his side?"

"My father could care less about the Weasley name."

"Well, that's his problem."

"You're really not going to tell me?"

"I already told you. I'm not going to."

"You're irritating." He frowned. "So you're not telling me anything about why my father is basically obsessed with you or why the weasel made you cry?"

"Don't call him that. And he didn't make me cry." He scoffed.

"Whatever." Alex sat up properly, dangling her legs on the side of the bed.

"Do me a favour? Check to see if Pomfrey's out there?" Draco peeked out and came back in.

"Yeah, she's in her office, facing the door."

"Dammit, I can't sneak out. Okay, wait outside for a second." She instructed.

"What, why?"

"Because I need to get changed and you're not going to see that."

"Noted." He left the room. Alex grabbed the clean clothes at the end of her bed and hurriedly got changed. She headed back to the door.

"Draco." She hissed and he turned to face her. "You have to help me sneak out."

"No way. Pomfrey already doesn't like me much."

"Please?" She pouted.

"Absolutely not." She huffed.

"Rude." He looked out to see madam Pomfrey. He moved back in and sat on the chair, looking a little forlorn. "What's up with you?"

"My grandfather died last week." He told her and she looked at him.

"Oh."

"He was always fun to have around. My father hated him but he had to respect him." Draco reminisced. "Grandfather always critiqued everything about him. And anything I did wrong was blamed on my father. So he was really good to me. I was his only grandson." She reached out and touched his arm comfortingly.

"I'm sorry."

"Yeah, me too." He said but then suddenly stood up. "I have to go to class. See you later."

"See you, Draco." She watched after him as he left. She waited a few minutes before getting up to check to see if Madam Pomfrey was still there.

"Miss Weasley, what are you doing out of bed?" Madam Pomfrey suddenly popped up by the door, making Alex stumble back.

"Um.."

"You're not to leave until I've checked you over and made sure there are no adverse effects to the potion you've taken."

"But I'm fine, and I would really like some fresh air." She said.

"You've been asleep for a week, Miss Weasley. Nourishment potions can only do so much for your sustenance. With your history, we have to monitor your eating habits and make sure it hasn't worsened."

"Can't I go and come back?"

"Not alone." Madam Pomfrey said. "Not without supervision."

Reluctantly, she headed back onto the bed.

When Hermione returned, she saw her friend looking miserable.
"How did it go?" She asked, referring to the conversation with Ron.

"I'm a coward, and selfish, and clearly not a Weasley. I might be more like Voldemort than I think."

"Ron didn't say that, did he?"

"Maybe I didn't tell anyone Quirrell was Quildemort because I wanted him to win."

"He said all that?"

"It's not like I wasn't prepared for it."

"No." Hermione crossed her arms. "Only one of us gets to hate you and be mad at you, and it is not going to be Ron."

"Um... you can both be mad at me." She offered.

"You're fragile right now, and you can't handle that." Hermione dismissed. "I'll be back."

"Wait-" Hermione was already gone. Alex fell back into her bed, bored.

Hermione found Ron in the common room. She grabbed him by the ear and started dragging him out.
"Wait, what are you doing?" Harry asked, following after them.

"You know what, you need to hear this too." She dragged them both to the room of requirement.

"Ow, ow, ow!" Ron cringed the entire walk only stopping when Hermione finally let go. She closed the door, and turned to them with a glare. "What is wrong with you?" He glared back.

"You acting like such a prat is what's wrong. Alex finally let you in. For years, I've been trying to get her to tell you, and you know why she never would? She was scared you would act they way you are."

"Of course you'd defend her."

"Okay, enough with that. The both of you have no right to judge Alex. All she's been doing for years is trying to survive." She looked between them. "And you, Ron- especially you. Everything she has ever done in her life has been to protect you."

A/N- This chapter features a very soft Draco. Poor Drakey. Rip Abraxas.

Favorite line 'if you teach me that hex you used against me in second year, I could go hex that idiot brother of yours.' I love protective Draco 🥺
