Jamal

"Yo Jay?"

Looking up, I'd seen Dwayne crossing the street.

"Uncle Wayne!" Dest called as I lifted her.

"Wassup bro?" We dapped and continued walking.

"Princess." He called Destiny.

Like always, she leaned forward and hugged him around his neck.

"You getting to big for ups girl." He tickled her.

"Not from my daddy." She laid her head on my shoulder.

"Gimme a minute man, let me get her settled."

"Yeah bro."

"Tell your goddaddy bye bye."

"Bye uncle Wayne." She waved.

Walking up the stairs, I got my keys out to open the door. Seeing my mother, Destiny hopped out my arms and ran to her.

"Mom, I'll be back, can you give her her bath for me?"

"Sure. Come here stink butt."

"My butt not stink." Destiny said back as she followed her.

Heading back downstairs, Dwayne was there rolling one.

"So what's up man? Ain't seen you all week."

"Work man. Bills gotta get paid and baby girl got her needs." I laughed as he passed me the blunt.

"Nah man." I shook my head.

"Damn Jamal saying no to weed." He joked.

"Tryna stay clean to get a promotion."

"That's what's up."

"So you found out anything man?" I asked.

"Nah bro." He exhaled. "Everybody I asked said they ain't know anything."

"Hmm."

I knew he was lying. I spoke to a couple people and so far they all gave me the two fools who were in the alley but they didn't see Dwayne. My plan was to get them and make them talk.

"But how Misty doing though?"

"From what I hear, she coming along good. I ain't been by to check her since it happened."

"Oh aight. She still over there at Beth Isreal?"

"Nah. Her man moved her."

"Oh okay."

"You seen Danielle?"

"At her usual spot yeah. I'd seen her there with Rodney and Junior. Why wassup?"

"Nothing. She ain't been by to see Dest in a while."

"I'll talk to her. I know how you two get."

"Yeah man. We just keep clashing." I shook my head. "But that shouldn't keep her from seeing her daughter."

"True."

"Anyway bro." I stuck out my hand. "I'm going up to rest a bit. I'll see you around."

"Yeah man." We dapped.

Heading back to my apartment, I just shook my head. The fact that Misty was right was bothering me.

The three of us were good like that. Dwayne was the one who initially talked me into telling her how I felt about her back in school so to know he attacked her was bothering me.
