As everyone in Professor Slughorn's class continued to take their test, Draco and Lilith sat next to each other without doing anything since they had finished already. Lilith still hadn't gotten used to being back to class but she stayed on top of her studies, always making sure she got a higher score than Draco.
"How do you think you did on the test, Jones?"
"Better than you," Lilith started packing up. She looked at a clock hanging on the wall in the front of the classroom and was waiting for it to turn 12:00 so that she could go to lunch.
"Students, you have five more minutes to turn in your exams," the profressor announced and some students raised their heads to look at the clock. They started panicking.
"Why don't you just give up on that?" Draco had his head down on the table, trying to stay awake.
"Why would I do that? Only because we're getting married doesn't mean I still don't want to be better than you," she whispered.
"You're a pain in the ass, Jones, you know that?" Draco opened his eyes and sat up to start packing up his own stuff.
"I do," she smirked at him, "and you love it."
"Miss Jones," Lilith turned her head and saw McGonagall coming over to her desk. Heads turned to look at her but they went back to taking their test when Professor Slughorn reminded them how much time they had left, "Will you come with me?"
"What is this about?" Draco asked for her.
McGonagall turned her eyes from Lilith to Draco and then back to Lilith. She gave the headmistress a reassuring nod, "It's about your sister. A judge is here and he wants to let you know the conclusion he has come to. I do not know what this is about so do not worry."
Lilith and Draco looked at each other as Lilith's heart starting beating faster and faster, her head filling with ideas of what the conclusion could possibly be. She stood up and Draco was about to do the same but McGonagall raised her hand to stop him, "I'm sorry but only Miss Jones can come with me," she said.
Lilith turned to Draco and didn't say anything. She was led out the room by McGonagall to her side. As they made their way to the judge, Lilith felt her head becoming dizzy. She had been waiting for these news for almost two weeks. As her heels clicked on the floor, the doors of several classrooms opened and students stepped out to head to the Great Hall for lunch. As she looked at the students, she saw two first years running and she instinctively thought of Maya as a student at Hogwarts.
They finally arrived to McGonagall's office and saw the judge at the front of the room. With every step she took, she felt like she was getting farther and farther away from her sister, despite her not knowing what the judge had decided on.
"Miss Lilith Jones, very good to see you," the judge said and opened the folder in his hands. McGonagall looked between the judge and Lilith for a couple of seconds before she left the room to give them privacy.
Lilith opened her mouth and nothing came out. She cleared her throat, "Your Honor, it's a pleasure to see you again."
He hummed as he read the papers to himself and then looked up to her, "Let's get on with this. I have reviewed the case and I launched a small investigation into your parents. Those details are confidential and I cannot disclose them, but it matters not. After careful consideration, I have decided to grant you and Mister Draco Malfoy full custody of Maya Jones."
Lilith almost couldn't believer her ears. She couldn't see clearly anymore as the tears in her eyes caused everything to become blurry, but she could make out the silhouette of the judge inside the room with her.
