Hi

I wanted this chapter to be dramatic, but I didn't feel like being cringey today.

So now you get slight humor. And a little drama. But not dramatic drama. Well maybe it kind of is.

John's POV

I was internally screaming with joy as my wagon finally came to a halt at Fort Washington. I tied my team of horses to a tree along with the others and grabbed my little suitcase. I'd only be staying for a short time, and hopefully, Alexander and Y/N can come along with me back to the city, too. I mean, everyone here would eventually.

I made my way through the entrance cut out from the wooden wall and towards the tent, widely grinning.

I saw a few familiar faces, but then I saw one really familiar face.

"Hamilton!!!!" I squealed as I hurried over towards him.

"Laurens, heyyyy," he said as he hugged me. I went to hug him back, but he suddenly pulled away and put his hands on my shoulders.

"Hey," he said. "Don't worry about what I wrote in the letter. She's doing better now, I promise."

I looked at him quizzically and chuckled. "Um, what the heck are you even talking about?"

He gave me a blank stare and dropped his hands to his sides. "John," he said calmly. "Did you get a letter from me?"

"No..." I answered slowly. "Alex, what is this about?"

He sighed and put a hand to his head. "I mean, I don't want you to freak out, 'cause it's really nothing now and-"

"Alexander," I urged, "you said 'she,' so you're talking about Y/N, right?"

"R-right, but-"

"Alex, what happened?"

"Like I said, she's better now, but about a week ago, she was injured in war and-"

"Injured?" My heart sunk. "Injured how?"

"Well, if you'd just let me explain!" Alexander threw his hands in the air.

"Well, sorry, but you're the one freaking me out," I said a little harshly.

"I told you not to freak out," he huffed.

"Just tell me what happened. Now," I tapped my foot impatiently.

"She-"

"What about me?" A voice said to my side. I glanced over to see a tired-looking Y/N running a hand through her messy hair.

Alexander jerked his head. "Y/N, why are you-"

"Y/N!" I exclaimed and stepped over to her. I held my arms out, ready to hug her, but she quickly shoved her arms out in front of her, hands at my chest keeping me from moving any closer.

She squinched her eyes closed. "I can't," she opened one eye. "Sorry."

I slowly dropped my hands to my side. "Can someone please tell me what's going on here?"

She sighed. "Amelia kicked me."

"Amelia?" I questioned.

"Oh," she hesitated, "my horse."

"You got kicked by a horse?" I spoke, completely shocked.

She and Alex nodded.

I felt like 1,000 bricks hit me. I hated seeing her like this.
