Absent

My weekend was uneventful, unlike the previous one. I still got hot thinking about our heated kiss at the lake. It was all I could think about. And when I tried to escape these thoughts in the night time, his perfect face would reappear in my dreams. The  dreams, now an almost  common occurrence,  were all the same. He would smile at me, his beautiful bewitching smile and I'd smile back. And then he would kiss me. His face, his voice and the feel of his mouth against mine were vivid pictures behind my closed eyelids. I woke up bright and early that Monday, oddly happy to go to school. "Bye Mom," I said as I stepped out of her BMW, my eyes subconsciously sweeping over the parking lot. Looking for a particular Infiniti. It wasn't there, and so was the owner; I would later find out. I felt...I don't know how I felt about that. Curious for the most part that's for sure. I couldn't help but miss him a little as we filed outside to have lunch. Adam went to his new friends, leaving Priscilla and I to ourselves. "I talked to Adam on the phone yesterday," Cilla suddenly began. I held back an inward groan and pretended to be actually curious, though I already knew how the conversation probably went. "How did it go?" I asked, propping my elbows on the metal desk between us. "He said I'm too clingy. Talked about how he hadn't seen that side of me until his new friends brought it to his attention." She looked about ready to cry and all I could think was, This is ridiculous. I stared at her, clueless as to what to say. Both her and Adam were my friends and I felt kind of in the middle. "I could - Uhm - talk to him for you," I offered awkwardly, praying she'd declined. I highly doubted that Adam would listen to me but it seemed like the best thing to say. I followed Cilla's gaze to Zayn's group, anxiously waiting for an answer. Adam was getting a little too cozy with the blonde called Stacey and judging from the look on her face, Priscilla noticed too. But I also happened to notice that Jason had seemingly taken Zayn's place in the group for the day. The glee on his face was enough to convince me that he'd wanted the position for a while. He held up his hand in a red headed boy's face, appearing to be telling him off. He then proceeded to hit the red head's , before ruffling his hair like a dog. I think the red head's name was Darren. Jason was trying to hard to be cool...to be Zayn. Truth was, no one could replicate Zayn's cool , un- bothered manner and anyone who tried instantly looked like a fool. He was the cafeteria king for a reason. I couldn't help but stare at Jason with distate. "Milla?"Priscilla looked like she had been trying to get my attention for a while now. "I'm sorry. What were you saying?" I asked, my attention wandering back to her.
"I said I would like it very much if you could talk to Adam."
I blinked at her, surprised that she actually took me up on my offer. "Oh, really?"
"I doubt he'll listen to you but I'm willing to try anything," she said, desperation coating her tone.

Ahh.... the things you do for friends. I was definitely not looking forward to talking to Adam about Priscilla but I had promised Priscilla I would do it. When Adam and I walked together to Chemistry, I took it as an opportunity to do what Cilla asked. Well, what I'd offered. "So," I began awkwardly. Adam turned to me, peering down at me. "You and Priscilla, huh."
I know what you're thinking, but I really had no idea how to introduce the topic. He immediately became defensive. "What about us?"
"Why are you being so defensive?" I questioned.
"I'm not!" He exclaimed, sounding even more defensive.
"You are! I'm not here to judge you or scold you for being a dick-"
"No no, she's being a bitch." What was wrong with him?
I side eyed him, sighing as I sat beside him. We were now in class but the second bell hadn't rung yet so I continued. "She loves you Adam. A lot."
"You think I don't know that?" He snapped, running a hand through his slightly long hair.
"Then why are you doing this?"
I received no reply, so I tried a different approach. "Is it because of your new friends?"
He straightened in his chair, pointing an accusing finger at me. "Don't you dare blame my sudden change of emotions on them!"
"You can't blame me for asking," I shrugged, already over this conversation.
"Why don't you just butt out? This has nothing to do with you," he snapped. I looked away, having expected this hostility from him but what he says next catches my attention. "You of all people should know that Zayn is not a bad person."
There's something about hearing myself and Zayn in the same sentence that makes me defensive. Don't ask me why because I have no idea myself. "What makes you assume that?" It was me who was being defensive now.
"There's something going on between you two, isn't there?"
When I didn't reply, his expression molded into one of worry. Worry that he might have over stepped. "I mean, he always asks me about you."
"Wait, really?" Zayn Malik, the cafeteria king, amazingly handsome jerk, was asking about ME. "Anyway, back to the original subject." I had to divert the conversation away from me before he noticed the blush creeping up my neck.
"Did she send you?" Adam asked, clearly angry at the thought of her having sent me.
"Does it matter?" I shot back. We stared at each other for a second, maybe even challenging each other until he said:"She's not what I want anymore."
