Chapter Forty Three

Before my hand even touched the bell, jaden opened the door. He looked so panicked which is weird because he's usually so collected. I came inside and he led the way to his room.

"where's everybody?"
The house was unusually quiet.
"not here. Cooper is with sab and Quinton and Josh went out to eat"
I nodded, still worried. Even his voice was not normal. And he kinda winced on the mention of Quinton and Josh. That's weird.

We arrived the room and I threw myself on his bed. He didn't sit down.
"Jae, can you relax? Whatever it is, we're gonna fix it. Okay?"
I tried to calm him but he shook his head and started walking back and forth in the room.

I watched him walk from the closet on the far left of his room, to the window on the far right of his room. And back to the closet. Then to the window.

" so, you cheated on Mads? You slept with someone?"

"No! I swear I didn't sleep with her. We-We- ughhhhh"
He groaned
"I can't believe myself I'm the fucking shittiest friend and I can't do anything about it and I-"

"jaden! Calm the fuck down okay? I don't understand anything. You didn't sleep with anyone. But you cheated? And what does that have anything to do with you being a shitty friend?"

He finally stopped moving and took a deep breath.
"I didn't cheat on Mads. I don't like her anymore. I like someone else. She's Mads's friend... I don't fucking know"
He shook his head, disappointed in himself.

That's when I finally realized what he's talking about. He likes a friend of Mads.

"does the girl like you back?"
I asked. He took a seat next to me on his bed and put his head in his hands and rested his elbows on his knees.
"yeah"
Jaden mumbled like he was ashamed. I pursed my lips.

"listen jaden. This whole thing is stupid. You and Mads haven't been on the best terms lately and it's obvious and normal. You found someone who's a little bit nice and caring so you think you like them. Whoever this girl is, she's a bitch. She's friends with Mads and she likes you? Honey, that's fucked up. "
I don't know if I'm going crazy or his body froze when I said the last part. But I continued talking anyway.
" she's not a loyal person and she definitely isn't worth losing Mads, the girl you actually love"

"you-you aren't supposed to say that. You fucking hate Mads and you always say we're toxic."
I put my hand on his shoulder in an assuring matter. His head never came out from between his hands.
"getting out of a toxic relationship just to get in another one isn't going to help. Who's the girl anyways?"

Faster than I thought he could move, jaden basically ran to the end of the room. Like he was running away from the question. He didn't look at me. He looked at the window and lit a cigarette.

" it doesn't matter"
He said, finally answering my question. I took a cigarette from my own purse and lit it as well.

"do I know her?"
I asked with a raised eyebrow. I feel like the problem isn't the cheating. The problem is the person he cheated on Mads with. And I need to know who that is.
"I don't know"
Jaden said, finally turning and looking at me.

"why is it a secret then?"
Jaden took a hit from his cigarette and exhaled it longer than usual. I copied him.
"because-"

"jaden? Jaden?"
Someone called and we heard the front door close. Is that nessa?
