The moment Hayden landed back onto solid ground his ears were assaulted with the chaotic and off-tune sounds coming from the band in the stands.
Hayden laid there, internally groaning at the sudden impact and growling at the steady intrusion in his mind.
The nest thing he knew, faces were surrounding him, helping him up. Some asking questions, others demanding answers. No matter how much the Phoenix wanted to snarl and snap and claw at those who thought they had a right to touch him (that right was reserved for his mate and his mate alone), he wasn't able to. All because of a stupid curse.
Suddenly, Hayden could feel as someone began to pick him up till he was standing.
"Hayden, can you hear me?" But before the boy could answer, someone was moving him along to somewhere he wasn't quite coherent enough to see.
"Hayden I need-"
"I'm not deaf, you bastard! What do you want?" Hayden snapped. In the back of his mind though, he could feel something very wrong. It was him speaking but he wasn't consciously thinking any words.
Suddenly, Hayden was being transported. The near painful tugging in his lower stomach causing him to break out of whatever spell seemed to be holding him.
Unfortunately, as soon as he landed again, this time in a heap on the floor, the curse took hold again. This time though, Hayden knew it wasn't permanent and he started to tug against the intrusion in his mind.
"Hayden, what happened in that maze. What happened to Mr. Diggory?"
Again, the ravenette found himself answering the demanding question against his will.
"He did something he shouldn't have and he paid the consequences"
"What do you mean by that? What did you do" The grating voice raised, causing Hayden's creature even more agitation.
"The maze got to him. By the time found he was already unconscious. Why? What's wrong with him?" Hayden asked, his voice dripping in false concern. Hayden couldn't quite figure out what was going on, but whoever was speaking through him, he couldn't complain.
"He's dead, Mr. Snape, and I can't help but believe you had something to do with it" The person accused, "So I ask you again, what did you do?"
"Do you really think I would bring him back If I did something to harm him? You can't be that dense" Hayden was done. This man was officially getting on his nerves. He started tugging even more at the intrusion in his mind that was making him respond.
He almost has it. Just a little more!
"Don't think you've fooled anyone Hayden Snape, I know who you are! Don't think you can lie to me. What. Did. You. Do!"
Got it! Hayden was successfully able to break through the spell holding him back. As soon as the connection snapped, his eyes slitted and his teeth elongated.
He lunged at who he recognized to be an angry old man. Feel no remorse whatsoever, Hayden raised his sharpened claws, ready to swing down and feel the blood beneath his finger tips.
Before he could find such satisfaction though, he was suddenly being restrained and a new person was calling his name from behind him.
Hayden struggled relentlessly against the arms of the person holding him back, growling lowly from his chest.
"Hayden, stop it! Calm down!" Draco demanded as his grip around the Phoenix's waist tightened.
"Headmaster, may I ask what occurred to warrant such a reaction from my nephew?" Severus asked, putting himself between the old man.
"Your nephew" Dumbledore repeated with angered mirth.
"Well, Mr. Snape" Dumbledore spat, "your nephew is hiding a secret. And I assure you, it's not his creature side he's hiding. Your boy there is close to the Dark Lord and I know he aided in murdering another student. I advise you to step cautiously, Mr. Snape, you're not as clever as you think" the headmaster warned in a sneer before quickly apparating out of the room and away from the feral student still trying to maim him.
The potions master scowled. He knew that the logical step at that moment would be to return home and speak with Tom about the unfolding events, but right now he needed to attend to his son.
"Lets get him back to your room" Severus said before leaving through the thick wooden doors, not having to look back to see Draco was following.
Sweeping Hayden into his arms so he was bundled against Draco's chest- the ravens head tucked into the blonds neck- the Veela hurried after his Head of House.
---
"Have you been taught how to care for your mate when he's gone feral?" Severus asked the blond as the three finally entered Dracos room.
"Um, not formally. Last time something like this happened I had to make him submit and then we cuddled" Draco answered, not feeling nearly as embarrassed as he might've been to relay that information if the situation was different.
"Yes, well, this state shouldn't last more than a day given he is cared for properly," the professor started, watching as Draco sat on the bed with Hayden on his lap.
"He will need physical contact with you for the entire duration of this time, it will help to ground him and reassure that you, as his mate, are here" the man said as he sat in an armchair close to the bed.
"Make sure that no one comes near any of you, all that will do is reverse any progress you might've made on bringing him out of this state. He'll also need a great deal of water and sleep. Try to make sure that he especially does the latter."
Draco nodded at all of this. Most of it seemed to be rather common knowledge, but he was glad for the knowledge anyway.
"I'll leave you two alone, then" Sev said after relaying all he had to say. Getting up from the armchair, he made his way to the door.
Soon enough he was gone and Draco and Hayden were left alone together in their private dorm room.
Draco breathed a heavy sigh. Why did this event have to be like all the others and end so horribly?
"Hayden, love, can you look at me?" Draco asked calmly as he tried to guide Hayden away from his neck, but all he got in return was a sharp growl resonating from his mates throat before hiding his face even closer to the blondes shoulder.
Sighing once again in defeat, Draco let the Phoenix be. In any case, his Veela was happy to have his mate safe in his arms again.
Cradling the back of Hayden's head with one hand and the other supporting the boys lower back, Draco leaned backwards until he was laying down on the plush covers of the bed.
"I got you," the Veela whispered into Hayden's ear as he rubbed comforting circles into the ravenette's back.
The two stayed like that for a good long while. Draco allowed Hayden the time he needed to calm down from the events of the evening.
"Are you feeling any better, love?" Draco asked after not too long. He allowed himself to relax a bit after the Phoenix purr in content, answering his question in a positive nuzzle.
"Good" the taller responded as he carded his fingers through the shoulder length back hair. "Can you tell me what happened in the maze?"
Immediately the purring stopped and Hayden cuddled even closer, gripping the blondes top as he ever so slightly began to tremble.
"Hayden? Are you alright, what happened? Please, let me help. I won't get mad I promise" Draco insisted, instantly worried by Hayden's negative reaction.
Hayden seemed to think it over for a second or two before slowly shaking his head.
Kissing his forehead, Draco suggested a different solution, "Can you show me?"
For some reason Hayden thought that was a better idea than telling him because soon enough he was nodding his head.
Finally, the raven lifted his head from the blonde's neck. Jewel toned eyes stared sadly into worried silver ones. Draco couldn't help but notice the wet tracks running down his mate's cheeks from his still slitted eyes.
"Hey, I love you" Draco reassured, pulling Hayden down for the gentlest kiss Hayden has ever experienced.
Hayden purred lightly at the much needed affection, laying the side of his face against Draco's chest, listening to his mates comforting heartbeat.
"Are you ready?" Hayden nodded hesitantly, not entirely sure he was actually ready for anything in that moment.
"Relax, darling," Hayden heard before he could feel Draco gently enter his memories through Legilimency.
Draco guided himself through Hayden's memories, following him through the maze and through everything that had happened.
The blonde watched as Haydens memories took him through his exploration through the maze, his encounter with Krum and the subsequent fight with Krum and Diggory. The moment both Hayden and Diggory grabbed the cup and were transported to the graveyard near Riddle Manor. He saw when Diggory practically attacked his mate and the exact moment Hayden gave into his creature and let his Pheonix go feral. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Nagini come to Haydens rescue. He couldn't help but feel a little jealous as he watched the blessed creature lash out and kill the Hufflepuff, he wished he could have partook or at least have prolonged his painful death a little longer. Draco watched as Voldemort came following after the snake and how he dealt with Hayden by putting him under imperio and sending him back.
When Draco finally left Haydens mind, he was heartbroken to see the tears running down from his jewel slitted eyes.
"Hey, it's alright. Im here. I won't let anyone touch you ever again" the blond promised, tugging the ravenette closer into a hug. "I've got you"
Hayden purred at the promise made to him, letting himself finally relax on top of his mate. The two stayed like that for a long time, each taking the time to enjoy being in each other's company and calm down from their high emotions.
Draco carded his fingers gently through Haydens hair, working out all the knots and tangles.
Eventually, Hayden lifted himself from Draco's chest to look him in the eye. Hayden smiled, his little fangs poking out from his lips.
Chuckling, Draco did the same, letting out his wings at the same time and letting them gently wrap around the two of them.
Hayden leaned down again, the time letting his lips land on Dracos.
---
As soon as Severus got back to his quarters, he dropped into his chair situated by the fireplace.
Why was it that his son always managed to put himself in situations that stressed everyone around him out?
He needed to talk to Tom.
Getting up out of the chair, he grabbed some floo powder and stepped into the fireplace, throwing down the powder, mumbling the name Spinner's End. As soon as he got to his home away from, he again flooed directly to the manor.
Walking into the small living room, he quickly made his way to the study where he assumed Tom to be. Upon not finding him there, he continued looking until he eventually found the man sitting in the darkened garden.
Quietly, Severus went and sat next to Tom.
"Our son is in danger" Tom spoke before Severus could even open his mouth. Severus nodded as he looked up into the tree above them, seeing Nagini lounging on a branch, her snout spotted with blood.
"We need to pull him out of Hogwarts before the Order takes action with Dumbledore and takes him away again" Severus responded.
