"Look, he'll come around, alright?" John B said, his hand coming over Bianca's shoulder, but she merely shrugged him off. He sighed, "He's- he's just doing a JJ thing."
The room lapsed into silence, the group was dining in the Wreck. Bianca could barely concentrate on the dead conversation the Pogues were having as she sat at the table beside John B and Sarah.
"You think he'll go home?" Kiara piped up, her eyes never leaving the wooden table in front of them. There was a small bowl of fries that Mike Carrera, the girl's father, had brought out earlier, but no one could stomach it.
"There's about a zero percent chance that JJ goes home," Pope muttered.
At this, Bianca frowned, "Where else would he go?" She narrowed her eyes. The Pogues merely glanced wearily at each other, ignoring her question, which only frustrated her more.
"You okay?" John B turned to Sarah abruptly, shifting the subject.
"Yeah," Sarah nodded, "Are you?"
"Well, I'm in one piece so..." John B trailed off.
Bianca scoffed softly, running her hands through her hair. She couldn't believe that JJ was missing and all John B could worry about was making sure Sarah was safe. JJ Maybank really did have a martyr complex. But instead of praising him and anointing him a Saint, the Pogues were ready to crucify him. Sure, she was upset about the harsh words he's carelessly thrown at her, but everything JJ had ever done was for his friends so why didn't they get that?
"Okay," Pope sighed after the awkward silence had passed, "It's too dangerous to pawn this thing off piecemeal- so our best bet is to go down and get the rest of it. Bring it all up at once, put it in a safe- a vault or something."
Bianca rolled her eyes, "Where are we going to get a safe from?"
"I- I don't know," The Heyward boy shrugged, "Just until we can find someone who won't rip us off."
The group glanced at each other in a silent agreement- it wasn't as if they had any better ideas. Bianca was glad Pope was taking charge, he seemed like the most logical out of the group and in the moment, she couldn't think of anything except JJ, not even the gold.
"We can figure it out tonight, get it done, and we can be out there tomorrow morning," Pope continued, "Easy."
"Alright, let's do it," John B nodded along, "Let's go."
Suddenly, Sarah piped up, "What about that thing with my dad?"
"Shit," The brunette cursed softly.
"What thing?" Pope narrowed his eyes.
"I have to go fishing with Ward," The Routledge boy admitted sheepishly.
"You can't get four hundred mill," Bianca deadpanned as the Pogues faces slowly fell, "Because you're going to kill fish?"
"Look, I have to go," John B glared at the girl across the table.
"Blow it off," Pope told him pointedly, unable to fathom just how stupid it sounded, "It's four hundred million in gold!"
"Make something up!" Kiara interjected while Sarah just stared him down.
"Look, I have to, okay?" John B sighed heavily, "He- he saved me, alright? If it weren't for Ward, I'd be in foster care."
"Ward is nothing, but an asshole with a white saviour complex and anger issues," Bianca sneered, she hadn't forgotten Ward's favoritism towards Sarah and loathing disgrace for Rafe, "No offence, S."
But the blonde girl did take offence, "What the fuck is your problem, B?"
"I'm just saying," She glared at her best friend, "Your dad isn't going around saving kittens from trees-"
"At least my dad doesn't blackmail his own daughter," Sarah cut her off harshly while the Pogues turned to each other with widened eyes at this revelation.
Bianca opened her mouth to return an insult equally as harsh, but Pope quickly interjected, always the peacemaker in the group, "Wait, B- this is stupid- John B, you go fishing with Ward and me, Kie and Bianca will figure out how to get the gold out tonight."
Kiara continued, "It'll be better to do it at night, anyway," She agreed, "Plus- at least JJ will have washed up by then."
Bianca huffed out a breath, sending a glare to Sarah but nodded hesitantly, "Fine."
"Fine," Sarah narrowed her eyes, arms crossed over her chest.
