Draco POV:

I have everything I could want. Including the one thing I truly ever wanted; Harry Potter's friendship. Which now, I possessed and nothing could make me happier. The entire next day I couldn't say a mean word to anyone. I think everyone thought I was deranged or mentally ill in some way.

Or at least I got that impression from my conversation with Pansy. "Draco... are you alright? You seem uncharacteristically... cheerful," She mentioned with her voice emphasizing the last word, as if suspicious.

"Is that a problem? Is it so unusual for me to be happy?" I questioned not understanding why she would ask me this. I know that I'm not the happiest of people and generally come off as a very cold individual, but I never thought I was always unhappy.

Pansy hesitated before answering my question notably failing to meet my eyes. "Draco... I have never seen you like this before. Ever. You have never been this happy in all the years that I have known you. "

"We've known each other since we were born," I replied rolling my eyes, there was no way that was true.

"I know..." She whispered giving me a sad smile. Her eyes filled with pity. I hated pity. So I dropped the subject.

"Whatever, Pansy. I don't have time for this I need to get to Herbology. I believe you have Ancient runes?"

"Yes, I do. Very well Draco, we will talk about this later. Bye, darling!" She called in a sing-song voice as I had already started to move away from you.

"And to you dear." I returned and the clattering of her heels confirmed that she too, was walking away. Now to Herbology where I will see Harry.

The light streamed through the windows and reflected off of the long singular table right in the middle of the greenhouse. There were 10 trays spaced out evenly with small cylinders containing an even amount of water. Inside the cylinders there lay a small purple water plant with some patches of green in random areas.

We were supposed to be doing a practical today and Professor Sprout required us to bring some of the necessary equipment. Just the basics like protective eyewear, note essentials, and some tools. As well as the textbook Magic Water Plants of the Mediterranean which related to our most recent topic.

As usual, I was one of the first in the greenhouse so I resigned to my normal spot on the table right at the front where I could get the best view. I brought my textbook and writing materials out of my leather satchel and lay them next to the tray in front of me. While I was so carefully lining everything up perfectly, a stream of red robes flew into the greenhouse bringing a bunch of noise with it.

I looked up to see that one of the Gryffindors that had entered was the Boy Who Lived. My heart surged and I gave him a discreet smile before returning to perfecting the organizing of my equipment. Not before noticing the soft smile, he gave me in return that made this feeling of euphoria lift my spirits and I was at a high.

All the places had been taken and Harry was forced next to me. I couldn't tell if he was just being slow or being slow because he wanted to stand next to me without attracting attention. Either way, I was thrilled at our proximity. "What rotten luck Harry. Standing next to Malfoy of all people!"  I heard the Weasel scoff.

"Oh yes absolutely terrible. So unlucky." Harry agreed before turning around and giving me a wink. I almost laughed at our little secret. But all the best secrets stay hidden so I kept quiet.

Halfway through the lesson when Professor Sprout asked us to collect some other herbs for the practical. Everyone was crowding around each other, pushing against each other. Especially me so it seemed. A note slipped into my hand and I looked up to find the culprit but everyone had already gone back to the table.

After getting the herbs, I unfurled the note underneath the table to not attract suspicion.

Meet at the great lake after curfew. I will be waiting.

Even something as small as getting a note from Harry made my heart flutter and I looked over to him and gave a little nod. He smiled at me and then went back to focusing on his plant after Granger scolded him. She really reminded me of Pansy.

If they weren't in two different houses they would have got on brilliantly.

------------------------

"I almost thought you wouldn't make it." The deep voice said from the blanket which lay across the grass. Harry Potter was watching me arrive and I went to sit down next to him.

"I nearly didn't. Peeves is a bloody menace!" I exclaimed and recounted to Harry how I had almost gotten caught wandering the halls. Apparently something about ghosts being able to see through invisibility charms but I was still sure Peeves was lying. It didn't really matter though seeing as I managed to avoid him in the end.

"It can't have been that bad-"

"You weren't there Harry it was almost like he could see right through me!" I laughed at how ridiculous it all seemed. Harry seemed to be looking at me strangely.

"What's the matter with you? Why do you have that look on your face?" I asked.

"No, it's nothing. I-just I've never seen you laugh before." He confided and I felt a blush creep up my cheeks.

"It was nice you should do it more often." That broke me. All over I was feeling warm and tingly and had no idea what to say.

"Well-I-you- don't look too bad yourself." I squeaked out and to my horror, Harry laughed.

"Did you just squeak?"

"What?! Don't be preposterous Potter!"

"Back to Potter are we?" Harry asked jokingly nudging me playfully.

"Justshutup!"
