God, I hate this." I swallow the bitter medicine, which tastes like absolute shit, and exhale to relax my miserable self.
"How are you feeling now?" Inaya whispers, sounding all worried.
"Like shit. I want to throw up." The nausea is killing me. I unbutton my shirt to stop feeling suffocated—because I am suffocating. My trembling hands struggle with the buttons, but I soon stop when Inaya's soft hand wraps around my wrist, gently asking me to stop.
"Let me help you."
The girl, who is behaving oddly different today, sits closer beside me, ignoring the way my eyes are staring deep into hers as she unbuttons my shirt.
"Thank you." I thank her just so she will look at me, but she only nods, her eyes still fixed on the buttons like they hold the meaning of life.
I grab her wrist to stop her, suddenly uncomfortable with this silent treatment. She blinks cutely, looking confused.
"What's wrong, Inaya?"
That one question is enough to make her squirm. She bites her lip—something she always does when she's nervous—her gaze fixed on my hand still holding her wrist.
"You said you were hungry. Should I bring you something to eat?" she asks, blatantly ignoring my question. Which, obviously, means something is wrong.
I should act more mature and patient around her. I don't want things ending up like last time.
"I've already ordered. It'll be here in a few."
She nods and stands up, but I pull her back down so she sits with me.
"Come on, stay. I want some company." I pat the empty space beside me, and after a moment of hesitation, she complies.
"Starting tomorrow, all the functions and parties begin, so tonight we're having a small get-together near the pool. You'll swim with me, right?" I nudge her shoulder—only to receive a deadly glare.
I giggle, already knowing the reason behind it.
"Don't tell me you still haven't learned how to swim?" I gasp in fake surprise. Not like I don't already know—she hates pools. She thinks she'll die the moment she steps in.
Yup, typical-minded girl.
"You don't have to worry when you have a talented hubby."
Let's take a moment to cringe at that word.
She lets out a shy chuckle at the mention of 'hubby'—which, of course, was the only reason I said it.
"I'll teach you everything in a matter of seconds." I wink at her, only to be rewarded with a giggle and a playful slap on my thigh.
"I'm not interested in swimming," she says like a boring person.
"And I feel like dying when I see deep water."
She speaks about her phobia, and for once, I don't feel like making a joke. Some fears aren't meant to be laughed at.
I take a big bite, stuffing my mouth with this delicious burger, while Inaya quietly sits in her place, looking at me with an empty stomach.
"Come on, take one bite. It's tasty." I bring the food up to her mouth, but she politely holds my wrist and refuses.
"I'm not hungry." She gives me a soft smile—one that is absolutely fake.
I don't argue and continue eating. After filling my stomach with that big, juicy chicken burger, I dip a fry into the sauce and bring it up to Inaya's lips.
