"We didn't want to do it, kid, but she'll surely report to the neighborhood association if we didn't drag you out of there," the oldest security guard said. He's balding but still capable of intimidating strangers by his sharp eyes and strong presence.

I'm sitting on a monobloc chair inside the security outpost. The other two were outside. One was inspecting a food delivery man's ID and the other one was asked earlier to buy cheap coffee from a nearby instant coffee vending machine.

"Rich people are hard to deal with," he added after I didn't respond. "And you chose to date the daughter of the most difficult family there is in this subdivision."

"They have that rep huh," I said bitterly, staring blankly at the blue log book on his desk. There's nothing interesting about it but I have to at least give myself something to do to keep my mind from wandering off.

The security guard from outside knocked on the front window and pushed inside two paper cups filled with steaming coffee. Mr. Palma took one and handed me the other cup.

"The husband's friendly but Mrs. Ramirez is especially difficult, although I guess she's just over protective of Jade. If you have a daughter that pretty, you'd treat her like a princess too. And a princess deserves a prince, no offense."

"I know I'm a tramp. I'm just amazed that even in this day and age people still think that way. It's different in firsthand experience because it comes way more shocking."

And I don't know a lot of rich people. Nurgis seemed rich but I haven't been to their house and I've never met his parents. All my friends back home were all ordinary people who lived normal lives.

"You were looking really shaken up. Your cheeks okay?"

"I could take a bunch of slaps, Mr. Palma. And I love Austin so much that I can't feel the humiliation of being insulted in front of him like that."

"But you're angry?"

I'm not angry. I'm furious and I want to vent, I want to hit back and I want to go back and tear off their front gate and kick their faces until they let me be with Austin as much as I want to. My cold blood is boiling in my veins and it's taking every energy I have to supress my bloodlust.

"More or less," I answered, keeping my voice low.

"Then you're bound to lose, Genesis, more so if you act on it."

"What am I supposed to do then?"

"Nothing, kid. You wait for a chance in school and make do with what tiny chance is given to you. Wait until you're both independent adults."

We're basically adults. I'm nineteen and Austin's almost eighteen, but I know I'm the loser in this argument. Old people always take the side of their fellow old people and they band together to intimidate us.

"You won't let me in again, right?" I asked, changing the subject.

"Yes, we had to put you on the black list because she specifically asked us to do so. I'm afraid you're gonna have to suck it up until you find a solution to your problem."

"Suck it up, huh."

"Or you could get her parents to like you? I did that with my wife's parents. It wasn't pretty but I got her in the end so this might work for you too."

"I highly doubt that, Mr. Palma. You see, I saved their daughter's life last month, but they didn't even thank me."

I was about to complain some more when my phone rang from my jacket pocket. Champion's calling. It's still eleven pm so he's supposed to be at his part-time job, whatever that may be. After several seconds of deliberating, I decided to ignore his call. I'm too emotionally drained to pretend that I'm fine and he'll surely fuss like Mrs. Weasley.
