Chapter fourteen,

I glanced at Eelii, who was walking over to me, just another day in training.  I wonder If he could tell I was about to do the stupidest thing ever.

Probably not.

I sighed and let myself slide down the tree stump; I really didn’t want to do any training today. Not especially if I was going to be running away to Trys to save Tristan.

I knew I would have to lie to everyone and say I was joining Trys. But it was worth it. If Tristan and his dad ended up safe then it was worth it. It would all be worth it, and everyone in Myllic would forgive me once they knew it had been for good means.

“What’s wrong?” Eelii walked towards me, examining my face. I looked away. It felt like he could see what I was going to do. I bit my lip, should I tell him?

“I’m… going to Trys.” Crap. I guess it was too late not to tell him now. But I couldn’t tell him I was there for Tristan, I needed Myllic to believe I’d left for Trys to believe it too.

“It’s too dangerous, you know that. That boy will get home soon.” He scolded, ever since Tristan had turned up and been taken he’d been harsh. I was really seeing the fairy in him now.

“I’m leaving Myllic.” I corrected him, in the same cold voice he had used with me. I couldn’t help it, I really wanted not to tell him my plan but if I did then it wouldn’t succeed.  He gaped at me and I saw a look of hurt flash across his eyes.

“Y-you can’t! You’re Vi!” He suddenly shouted, the cold tone had vanished and suddenly he was acting like my friend again. I shook my head, trying to betray no guilt in my expression. He’d forgive me for this, wouldn’t he?

“I have to leave. I have to go.” I said, suddenly feeling the need to leave right now. Like right now. I stood up and started to jog back to the castle. I’d get a few things and then leave. I heard Eelii’s footsteps behind me. They made no sign of trying to stop; they were just a presence behind me. I wondered if he thought I was joking.

I marched to my room, ignoring Miranda’s wave to me in the hallway. I already had my rucksack ready. I had planned it thoroughly. I would go there, state my change. Get them trusting me. Visit Tristan, set him free. Make sure he promised never to come back and then go back to Myllic.

It sounded easy as pie, but something told me it was easier said than done.

Oh well. I had to try. I couldn’t let them hurt Tristan.

I started to make my way back to the door when Eelii suddenly realised I was actually going.

“No! Wait! Vi, don’t go!” He started to panic and alerted the guards. What a coincident, my mom was also stood near the door talking to a few maids. I really didn’t want to have to lie to her; it would break her heart if she thought I had left for Trys.

“Vi?” My mother asked. I didn’t stop.

Swinging open the door dramatically, I felt as if it was now or never. I didn’t want to hurt anyone, especially my mom. But it was the only solution.

“Vi?!” She repeated and I carried on, trying to not cry. “Vi! Don’t go!” She cried, but she couldn’t hold me back. Eelii joined in her shouts but I walked on anyway. I entered the town, ignored the fires to my right, ignoring the vicious fighting going on to my left, and looked ahead at the Trys kingdom.

The castle was roughly the same size, so I’d probably get lost there too, but it wasn’t as bright as Eliyn’s. It was dark. It was like something from a cheesy horror movie. And ironically, there was a rain cloud hovering over it. Every now and then lightening would strike above its roof. I shivered, no one in this town had even recognised me.
