(A/N: Ok so. This chapter is well... what can I say. You've been expecting this, right? I bet you never thought this would happen so soon...)

Chapter Twentyfour~

I was still on the balcony. I’d refused to come off it until I’d figured at least one thing out. I stood with my arms hung over the balcony wall as the morning air seeped through the clouds. I let the rays of sun flow over my skin, hoping that maybe they’d help me.

If I went back in, I’d have to talk to Eelii. And that would be awkward. But if I stayed here then…

All would be well.

Well, at least for now.

“Vi-i-i!” Miranda knocked on the balcony windows that I’d locked from the outside with my powers. I turned around slowly to face her through the glass.

She gave me a stern face and just as she was about to open her mouth and instruct me to come inside there was a gust of wind suddenly attacking my back.

I turned back around and was momentarily blinded by the sun that had snuck out from the clouds. But there was clearly a silhouette in the midst of the rays, flapping its wings wildly.

As my eyes adjusted I realized it was Leo hovering a hundred metres away from the balcony. It was close enough to see him, but not close enough to see him clearly. I frowned and leant over the balcony in confusion.

What was he doing here?

Our eyes connected for a few seconds but then he tore himself away from my eyes and looked down at the line of soldiers beneath the balcony guarding the castle.

Why were there so many guards protecting the line of the castle here? Leo was alone as far as I could see, surely they weren’t expecting an attack.

As Leo floated forwards the line of guards advanced and I spotted Eelii’s vibrant blue hair in the midst of them. For a moment he turned around and caught my eyes.

I didn’t know what to do so I just stood there, staring back.

His lips moved slightly and then the man next to him turned subtly and nodded.

At the nod, Eelii jumped off the ground and onto the balcony. He pushed me back, closer to the door as he stood protectively in front of me.

The silence between us was bearing down on my shoulders and I was considering going back inside.

Leo was closer now, close enough to make out an expression- not that he had one.

He came closer and closer in silence until he was a few feet away from me and Eelii.

Eelii raised his sword decisively but Leo looked past him ignorantly.

It was like looking into the eyes of a monster. Something, something deep inside me, was suffocating my mind with fear although I had no reason to be feeling like this. Shouldn’t I be feeling relief? Shouldn’t I be feeling love?

But instead I was being choked with an unknown fear.

“I’m sorry.” His lips formed the words before my ears retrieved them and just as I understood what he had said, he was gone. He was flying down, down through the line of guards.

He penetrated their security and the previously ordered men flew into chaos. Leo flew past and the sound of shattering glass told me he’d entered the castle through a window.

I stood, stiff and un-moving, for a minute. Eelii did the same, and he only bothered to turn around and face me when the wind blew him off balance.
