Chapter thirtynine~ “I won’t let you hurt her anymore.”

I’d lost track of the time, but the sun was slowly setting, telling me we’d been here longer than anyone had intended. The fight was continuous, it had come to a near end a few times, but the one on the losing side would always get back up.

We were both tiring now, both suffering from injuries and exhaustion. Not to mention the emotional pain we were both in.

The crowd were getting tired, but no one had left as of yet. I think they all wanted to be able to say: I was there when the war was won. They couldn’t risk missing the death, and it’s not like anyone had cameras to film it.

I looked at the crowd for a moment, wondering why fairies haven’t got the technology of earth, I mean it’s not like they couldn’t magic it up out of nothing. The crowd stared back at me, just as confused.

In my moments of thoughts, Leo attacked me once again with a massive gust of wind, but it was nothing compared to the power he’d used against me at first. We were tiring, and so were our powers.

I didn’t even try to avoid it, my legs refused to move. I was knocked off my feet and collapsed to the floor gracefully. My arm, armour-less and exposed, had been the target of many of his attacks. And because of that the blood that I’d hoped would dry, was still dripping slowly to the floor. I would wipe the blood away, but with what? My metal glove protecting the other hand?

I stared at the sky through the cage and focused on breathing. It was obvious I was worse than Leo in the health condition, even if his face was covered in a crimson liquid. His arms might still be in their armour, but they both looked as injured as mine.

I heard him prowling towards me, still managing to intimidate me in his fatigued state. He coughed a little before reaching me and looking down at my helpless body. I stared straight up at him, because he was blocking my view of the sky.

That was when I saw the flicker in his eyes. He wasn’t going to give up. He wasn’t going to let me win.

I slowly pulled myself to my knees bending my head over so my neck was fully exposed to him.  No one was ever going to win if we kept this painful cycle going. I was ready to go now, anyway, I’d figured.

Well, I wasn’t, I was just too tired to fight him anymore. And that was a good enough reason as the rest. I deserved to die with dignity.

“Go on.” I croaked, closing my eyes and waiting for tears to come but I’d already used them all up. There was nothing for a moment, just the sound of his feet shuffling against the dusty ground.

“What?” He replied, in a voice just as strained as mine. I hugged myself and bent my head further towards the ground, making it clear I wanted him to kill me, and kill me now.  “No.” He said after a gust of natural breeze swept my hair into my face.

“What?” I asked, a little stunned. I was giving him the chance to kill me and he was… saying no?

“I want to kill you properly. I don’t want it to be like this.”

“Kill me.” I cut him off harshly, breathing through my teeth. My fists clenched as I waited impatiently for an answer.

“I said no.” He replied stubbornly. I raised my head and my hair parted from my face like a pair of curtains. We both stared at each other, not one of us willing to give up on our points. I pursed my lips.

“You have to.” I whimpered, beginning to tire of just kneeling on the ground. His face was tinted with a slight guilt then and we both knew it was true. He had to.
