Chapter six,

“Is she ok? Is she hurt?” Tristan gasped. At his voice I couldn’t keep my eyes closed anymore, they fluttered open and the morning sun made me realise I’d slept here over night.

“She’s fine.” His dad muttered and shuffled away from me as if to hand me over to Tristan. He pulled me into a hug and I was overwhelmed with feelings of complete love. Someone cared for me.

“I’m so sorry! Anna, please don’t go into the woods on your own!”  He pleaded and I nodded into is chest. But I couldn’t promise anything… that place was wonderful.

“What were you thinking, brat?!” Oh, that must have been my delightful mother. I made my hands into fists on Tristan’s neck and tried to calm myself from slapping her, “You did this for attention, you selfish child!” She shouted and I ducked my head further into Tristan’s chest. I didn’t want to go home.

“It’s not her fault, Judy, go easy on her.” Tristan’s dad sighed, defending me.

“DON’T YOU TELL ME HOW TO TREAT MY CHILD!” She shouted and pulled me away from Tristan. Dragging me by my arm, her lips dripped with venom and foul words. Tristan looked sympathetically at me as my mom threw me towards the house.  “You’re not my child! You ungrateful little bitch!” She screamed and I fled to my room.

I stare at my window, wondering what I ever did wrong. What did I do to get treated like this? Why was I always doing stuff wrong? Why was it always me who got blamed?

Sitting on my bed I wanted to cry, wish to go back to Myllic, scream and destroy my room with anger but no emotion came over me. Just… boredom.

I glared at my clock as it ticked slowly on purpose.

“Anna…” I heard a faint, smooth voice tap at my door. Walking over to open the door, I cautiously wondered what would happen if it was my mom. I stood looking at the door, waiting for my mother’s impatient scream but nothing came. After I didn’t open it, it swung open at the hands of Leo.

I stumbled backwards, hadn’t Miranda told me to beware of him?

Well, so far he’d only saved my life.

Leo shut the door and frowned when I backed away further.

“Who are you?” I asked, desperate for answers. He seemed shocked that I’d ask, he probably didn’t know about where I’d been. Actually… he probably didn’t know at all about it.

Because it was all a dream. He can’t know what I dream about.

He had probably come to beg for forgiveness after not saving me from the wolves.

“Leo, don’t you remember?” He said, like I’d forgotten his name. I shook my head as he misunderstood my question.

“Who are you?” I repeated and he seemed even more shocked that I’d asked that. He just stared at me, unsure of why I was suddenly afraid of him and not completely enchanted by charms.

“I…I’m-”

“Why are you here? What do you want from me?” I asked, raising my voice with fear. Miranda gave me a reason to fear him and I already felt I could trust her, she saved my life.

But so did Leo…

“Anna, what happened? Did someone tell you something? Are you ok?” He stepped forward, but I stepped further back. He frowned. He was talking to me like we had known each other for our whole lives. That reminded me a little of Tristan. I wondered what he was doing right now?

“Answer the question!” I shouted. I suddenly worried if my mom would here, but she probably wasn’t even home. She’d probably gone out on a drinking spree.

“I’m here because I live here...” He answered, his voice leaking with lies.

“Why don’t you go to school?” I countered him as he frantically tried to come up with an answer, “Why can you disappear?!”

His eyes flickered to meet mine and he looked so vulnerable and helpless it was almost cute.

“Where did you go last night?” He asked. His voice was suddenly serious. I pursed my lips, reluctant to tell him about my trip to wonderland. “You went to Myllic?!” He shouted, grabbing my shoulders.  How the hell did he know that? “What were you thinking?!”  So he does know about it! And it is real!

I smiled because of this. It definitley had not beenel dream. Miranda, the girl who had saved my life, was real. Eliyn, the woman who had outstanding beauty, was real. The weird beings with glowing wings were real. The castle, glimmering with gold, was real.

Leo looked a little pissed off by my reaction. He was so close, gripping my shoulders with so much force it hurt.

“It was either that or get ripped apart by wolves!” I snapped, all because he hadn’t been there to save me. But since when had I relied on him to save me? “And you know what they said?...” I said, my voice suddenly became quite and calm.

“What? What did they tell you?”  He looked down into my eyes, almost like his life depended on it.

“They said that you were dangerous.” I whispered. The atmosphere suddenly got really tense. He sighed and put his head in his hand. I threw my head back in relief as my shoulders had been relieved of the pressure of his hands.

“You don’t actually believe them do you?” He said, not sure on whether I trusted them, I nodded. Suddenly Leo’s bad boy mysterious appearance didn’t seem so real anymore.

But now Leo was here, my mind was blurred. Who could I trust?

The boy who’d saved my life time and time again, the boy who scared me… but made me feel enchanted at the same time? Or the girl who’d saved my life once, the girl who had wings and lived in wonderland?

Right now, neither choice seemed to make sense.

“Get away from her!” Tristan’s dad burst into the room and Leo disappeared before I could ask anything else. I frowned at Tristan’s dad. How had he known he was here? And how had he known he was dangerous.  “Are you ok?” He walked over to me with a face completely overtaken with worry. I nodded.

“Why-”

“Listen, Anna, you need to stay away from him. He’s not good for you.” He said, turning to leave again, “Oh and, try to stay out of the woods.” He added.

And he was gone like that.

Why did people just come and go? Making me even more confused than before? It’s like my life was a bus, people got on and got off when they pleased. I was almost feeling whiplash at all the people disappearing and leaving me on my own.

But I guess I had to get used to it.

Keeping count, two people had told me to stay away from Leo.

Two people had told me to stay away from Myllic.

One person had told me I’d be back there soon.

So, I had loads of questions I needed answering, but I knew if I had chance I could only ask a few so I narrowed them down in my head.

Who’s Vi?

Why should I beware of Leo?

Why does Tristan’s dad know about all this?

What is Myllic, and why did Eliyn say it was my home?
