Chapter eight,

“I told you Leo was close.” Miranda muttered under her breath while Eliyn showed me around the palace.

“Who’s Leo?” I asked. I hoped that they might misunderstand I got ready to correct the question.

“He’s the prince of Trys. He has the strongest power throughout all the kingdoms.” Miranda said dreamily. I laughed at the expression on her face, “Apart from you of course.” She smiled.

Me? If I was only half-fairy then why would I be powerful…?

“You have the powers of a fairy and the compassion and care of a human; the two traits together make you perfect.” Eliyn picked up on my thoughts and explained. I nodded, so I was meant to stop this war… by winning for Myllic.

That’s why the Trys sent Leo, they wanted me to learn to trust him and then he’d bring me to Trys so I could win for them.

Fairies were the most heartless people I’d met.

“Thanks.” Miranda mumbled in response to my thoughts. Didn’t anyone have privacy here? “You’ll learn how to cover your thoughts while you train.” Train? Oh, joy. Training to fight.

Oh god, could Leo pick up on my thoughts while we were on earth?

“No, it’s harder to pick up on thoughts on earth. It’s most likely he didn’t.” Eliyn said while showing me upstairs. ‘Most likely’. Oh crap.

My cheeks turned a rosy red colour.

As we reached my room Miranda got excited at the thought of my wardrobe. Apparently Eliyn had kept a room for me, always knowing I’d come back.

We entered the room and I was in heaven.

It was like they’d known me forever. The room was painted a light green colour, all the furniture was white. Plants decorated the room, making it look even more natural and me. A bookshelf already filled with unread books, CD’s and DVD’s, was waiting for me.

The wardrobe on the other hand, looked like it was made for a princess. Miranda pointed out that I was a princess. The gowns were covered in gems and even the shoes looked like they glowed. It all looked very fancy.

Eliyn pulled out the plainest dress she could find for me to try on. Even though it was the plainest it still sparkled and shimmered when you moved a millimetre.

I slipped it on in the bathroom and judged myself in the mirror.

I had to admit, it looked amazing on me.

And then I saw my face.

It was like someone had stolen my old one and put another one on its place. The insults Hope used to taunt me with seemed so irrelevant now, I’d never been one to complement myself, or even have a little confidence in my looks but the girl staring back at me looked… amazingly pretty.  This girl wasn’t me…

This was Vi.

I stepped out so Miranda and Eliyn could see me. They both gasped and their eyes looked in awe. Even the queen, who was shockingly beautiful herself, looked amazed.

Then I wondered who Miranda was. She didn’t call Eliyn queen or royal highness like everyone else… so could she be my sister? No, Leo said Eliyn only had one child, Vi.

“You look beautiful.” Eliyn said, taking me in for a hug. And I enjoyed her motherly love. I had craved it for years from my mother back home but she’d ignored me each time I tried to get close.

Ha, no wonder why.

That night was the welcome home ball.

Everything stopped, the war stopped, the hate stopped, the fighting stopped just for one night. One night, to welcome the princess home.  Seemed pretty pointless, the enemies would just take this chance to take me in and access me. Analysing my weaknesses and eventually using it to kill me.
