Chapter Six - Battle Trials

On the next day at UA, Aizawa was giving a lesson to Class 1-A when All Might entered the room. Seeing the Symbol Peace excited most of the class. Lance didn't care while Ilana felt honored to be meeting the Pro Hero who was known as the Symbol of Peace. Octus was simply curious. All had recognized him from their encounter with Toxic Chainsaw. After making his introductions, All Might had all of Class 1-A meet in the training field with their Hero costumes. Using his abilities, Octus produces Hero Costumes for Lance and Ilana. Lance's Hero Costume was a recreation of his Galalunian military uniform. Ilana's Hero Costume was a formal Galalunian royal dress retrofitted for combat purposes. As for Octus, he simply formed a cape and had large "N" on his chest. 

Ilana: You did a good job with our costumes, Octus!

Octus: Thank you. Designing these costumes was quite simple. I simply applied style and functionality. 

Lance: As long as it can hold it's own in a fight, I'm fine with it. 

Octus: I've also taken the liberty of connecting your costumes to your armor. 

Lance: Good thinking, Octus. 

All Might then announces that the class would be split into teams of two. One team would be a Hero team and the other would be a Villain team. The Hero team has to disarm a bomb guarded by the Villain team in a fake city. Lance, Ilana and Octus were placed on the Hero Team. The Villain Team they would face against would consist of Yaoyorozu, Jiro and Kaminari. When the battle trials began, the Hero Team were given time to plan. 

Lance: Octus, what do you know about our opponents? 

Octus: Momo Yaoyorozu's Creation Quirk allows her to materialize different objects by using the lipids in her body. Kyoka Jiro's Earphone Jack Quirk grants her the ability to generate sound based attacks from her Earphone Jacks as well as plug them into walls to listen in on whatever is happening in any given area. Denki Kaminari's Electrification Quirk gives him the ability to charge in electricity and emit it out of his body as a sort of protective aura that electrocutes anyone through contact.

Ilana: Sounds like we're dealing with some strong opponents? What's the plan? 

Lance: We hit them hard and fast. We give them no chance to strike back. 

Octus: That strategy could work, but we still have the matter of the Bomb. 

Ilana: Octus is right. Our main mission is to disarm the bomb.

Lance: Our opponents are in the way. They'll be defending the bomb. 

It became clear that Lance and Ilana had different plans for the trial. Lance's plan was to take down the Villains while Ilana's plan was about disarming the bomb. 

Octus: Perhaps we could accommodate both plans.  

As Octus laid out his plans, the Hero Team was released. The trio make their way to the fake building where the Villain Team hid the bomb. As they entered the building, Octus scanned the room. 

Octus: The room is clear. 

Lance: I'm going ahead!

Ilana: Lance, wait!

Ilana's words fell on deaf ears as Lance ran ahead. As Lance moved through the corridors of the building, he was ambushed by Yaoyorozu. 

Yaoyorozu: You made a mistake coming here alone, Hero. 

Without hesitation, Lance lunged at her and attacked her. Yaoyorozu was able to hold her own against Lance. Meanwhile in the control room, All Might and the rest of Class 1-A watched the fight. 

Kirishima: Whoa! Look at Lance go! 

Mina: I've never seen anyone fight like that before!

Aizawa watched with interest as Lance fought Yaoyorozu using a fighting style that even he was not familiar with. Meanwhile, Octus and Ilana located the bomb inside an empty room. As Ilana was about to move on the bomb, Octus stopped him. 

Octus: We're not alone. It's a trap. 

As Octus said this, he grabbed Ilana and ran with lightning fast speed as the area they were standing on was engulfed by electricity. It wasn't long before Jiro and Kaminari revealed themselves. 

Kaminari: You move pretty fast, Newton! Too bad it won't do you any good!

Octus: You would be wise to surrender. The odds of your team winning this fight are not in your favor. I've already mapped out 20 different ways to dispatch you.

As Octus said that, Ilana began making a run for the bomb. 

Jiro: C'mon Denki! She's after the bomb!

Kaminari: On it!

As Kaminari was about to move on Ilana, Octus moved in and grabbed Kaminari. He then takes him out of the room. In an attempt to free himself, Kaminari attempts to use his Electrification Quirk to unleash a powerful wave of electricity to stun Octus. As Denki gives it all he has, the electricity temporarily short circuits Octus's hard light hologram disguise. By the time Kaminari caught a glimpse of Octus's true form, Kaminari overused his Quirk and short circuits his brain, reducing him to a bumbling idiot. Octus was able to restore his Newton form before anyone else could notice. Meanwhile, Ilana was fighting against Jiro.

Jiro: Not bad, Ilana. But we've got you beat! You might as well give up now!

Ilana: I won't give up so easily, Villain! As long as I still draw breath, there will always be hope! 

As Ilana fought against Jiro, Lance and Yaoyorozu had entered the room while still fighting one another. Octus soon entered the room. 

All Might(Intercom): ONE MINUTE REMAINS! HAHAHA!

As the announcement was made, Lance got the upper hand on Yaoyorozu and broke through Yaoyorozu's defenses. He then attacks her with a series of flurried attacks. He ends the combo by kicking Yaoyorozu against the bomb. 

Lance: Newton, now!

Without hesitation, Octus charges at the bomb and pushes it, shattering it into tiny pieces. As he did this, an announcement was made.  

All Might(Intercom): THE BOMB HAS BEEN DISARMED! THE HERO TEAM WINS!

After that, everyone went to the control room where All Might evaluated everyone's performance.

All Might: HAHAHA! VERY WELL DONE YOUNG NEWTON!  YOUR QUICK THINKING AND WIT MADE YOU THE MVP OF THIS MATCH!

Octus: Thank you. 

All Might: YOUNG ILANA! YOU TRULY HAVE THE HEART OF A HERO! YOUR ABILITY TO INSPIRE HOPE IS AN INSPIRATION TO US ALL! 

Ilana: I am most honored for the kind words, All Might!

All Might: AS FOR YOU, YOUNG LANCE. YOU ARE SKILLED, THERE IS NO DOUBT OF THAT! BUT BEING A HERO MEANS MORE THAN THAT! TAKE ILANA'S EXAMPLE! THROUGHOUT THIS EXERCISE, SHE MAINTAINED HOPE! HOPE IS THE GREATEST STRENGTH OF A HERO!

Lance simply nods his head, not caring what All Might had to say about his performance. After that, the Battle Trials continued until everyone finished. When it did, class ended. As they went home to rest for the night, all three were satisfied with their performance on the Battle Trials. But a new an unexpected test would soon await them.
