Chapter Thirteen - The Sports Festival Begins

After a week of training, the UA Sports Festival was upon the students of Class 1-A. In the locker room, Ilana and Lance were preparing themselves for the occasion while Octus was running some diagnostics. 

Ilana: The Sports Festival is finally upon us! Let's give it our all! 

Lance looked around at his classmates. He soon witnessed Todoroki declaring his own war against Midoriya. It wasn't long before Ilana approached Todoroki. 

Ilana: There's no need for hostilities, Todoroki. We are all friends. 

Todoroki gave Ilana a cold stare. It was clear to her that something was on Todoroki's mind. Ever since the Sports Festival was announced, Todoroki had become colder than usual. It was as if Todoroki had something to prove to someone. Soon enough, the class was called to the stands. As they walked to the stands, Present Mic made an announcement on the stadium's intercom systems.

Present Mic(Intercom): IT'S UA'S SPORTS FESTIVAL! THE ONE TIME EACH YEAR WHEN OUR FLEDGLING HEROES COMPETE IN A RUTHLESS GRAND BATTLE! FIRST UP, YOU KNOW WHO I'M TALKING ABOUT! THE MIRACULOUS RISING HEROES WHO BRUSHED OFF A VILLAIN ATTACK WITH THEIR STEELY WILLPOWER! THE FIRST YEARS OF THE HERO COURSE! IT'S CLASS 1-A!

After that,  the class were welcomed by a cheering crowd.

Midoriya: Whoa...what a crowd!

Iida: And we're expected to put on the best performance we can in front of so many spectators. I suppose this is merely one more necessary skill if we hope to become heroes. 

Kaminari: Man I could get used to this! 

Jiro: Seriously Denki? Don't let it go to your head this early!

As Ilana looked around the crowd, she was taken aback by this. She remembered the days of watching her father speak to the people of Galaluna and how they would cheer for him. She lets out a warm smile and waves to the crowd. Lance didn't pay any mind to the crowd while Octus observed the crowd. Eventually, Class 1-A made it in front of the stage with the other classes. 

Present Mic(Intercom): IT'S UA'S SPORTS FESTIVAL! THE ONE TIME EACH 

 Standing on the stage was Midnight as she made an announcement.

Midnight: For the student pledge, we have KATSUKI BAKUGO OF CLASS 1-A!

Bakugo then began making his way to the stage. Everyone was anticipating what he would say. Ilana herself was curious about what kind of speech Bakugo would make. Bakugo then taps on the microphone.

Bakugo: I just want to say.....I'm gonna win.

Upon hearing that, Class 1-A was completely mortified with the exception of Lance and Octus. Lance was annoyed while Octus was simply curious. 

Lance: Why am I not surprised? Now he just painted a huge target on our backs. 

Octus: Was it really a surprise though? Given Bakugo's personality and attitude, this kind of response was expected. 

With that, the Sports Festival began. The first event was a three part obstacle course. Everyone is jam packed against a doorway. As the event began, everyone rushed out, but Todoroki used his Ice Quirk to freeze most of the students where they stood. Ilana and Lance along with Octus were frozen in place. Yaoyorozu, Bakugo, Kirishima and a few others manage to avoid the attack.

Ilana: So...cold....

Lance: Damn it! We're stuck!

Octus: Allow me. 

Octus then frees himself from the ice along with Lance and Ilana. Wasting no time, the three rushed to catch up with those ahead of them. Octus was able to analyze the area around him in a rapid pace and avoided all the traps and navigated through them without much trouble. Lance used both his advanced military training and the device Octus had given him, Lance was able to navigate through the obstacle course. Ilana follows Lance as she uses her own artificial Quirk to navigate through the obstacle course. Soon enough, they all crossed the finish line. Octus had finished the race. He was tied for first place with Midoriya. Lance and Ilana had finished the race in 8th and 9th place respectively. After the race was over, Todoroki approached Octus. 

Todoroki: Newton, clearly I underestimated you. It won't happen again. 

As Todoroki said this, Octus simply have him a blank stare while observing Todoroki's reaction. As Todoroki walked away, Lance and Illana approached him.

Lance: What was that all about?

Octus: I don't quite know. He seems rather displeased that I or Midoriya won the race. I suspect that something is driving Todoroki to achieve victory. 

Lance then glances over to Todoroki. He notice something familiar. He could see that Todoroki was hiding strong emotions inside of him. It was something Lance knew all too well. Soon enough, Ilana spoke up.

Ilana: Well it looks like we'll be advancing to the next round. I must admit, I'm quite nervous about what may happen next.

Lance: Whatever happens, I'm sure we can handle it. Octus, have you detected any Rift Gate openings?

Octus: I've detected no Rift Gate activity since the USJ incident. I've connected myself to the computer back at the house. If the Rift Gate is opened, I'll know immediately. 

Ilana: In the meantime, we must prepare ourselves for the next round of the Sports Festival. I'm confident that all of us are going to do well!

With that, Ilana and Lance along with Octus prepared themselves for the next round of the Sports Festival. They were able to advance into the second round. But all understood that it was only going to get harder from there. Despite this, all three were ready to give it their all.
