Chapter Eighteen - Octus VS Todoroki

After Octus's victory against Lance the Sports Festival continued onto the next match. The match ended in quick victory for Tokoyami against Mina. After that, Bakugo scored an equally dominating victory against Kirishima. Once the final match ended, the next matches were drawn up for the semi-finals.

Match #1: Shoto Todoroki VS Newton

Match #2: Fumikage Tokoyami VS Katsuki Bakugo

When the matches were announced, it was clear to everyone that these matches would be a match of strength and power. All four had been completely dominating throughout the course of the Sports Festival. After a brief intermission, the first match of the semi-finals had begun as Octus and Todoroki made their way to the arena. As the two stared each other down, Present Mic announces the fight.

Present Mic(Intercom): HERE WE ARE, FOLKS! THE FIRST MATCH OF THE SEMI-FINALS! FIGHTING NOW ARE TWO FORCES OF NATURE! LIKE THE OTHERS IN THE SEMI-FINALS, THESE TWO HAVE BEEN DOMINATING THE COMPETITION! NOW THEY COME TO HEAD! FIRST WR HAVE SHOTO TODOROKI FROM CLASS 1-A! HIS OPPONENT ALSO HAILS FROM CLASS 1-A! GIVE IT UP FOR NEWTON!

The crowd erupts into thunderous cheers as Todoroki and Octus stare each other down. Octus immediately begins analyzing Todoroki to plan his approach. As for Todoroki, he stared down Octus, not saying a word.

Present Mic(Intercom): CLASH!

As Present Mic announces this, Todoroki attempts to beat Octus in the same way he beat Sero by using his Ice powers to create a large ridge of ice. Instantly, Octus is frozen inside the ice. In the stands, the students of Class 1-A watch in shock.

Kaminari: Guess even Newton couldn't contend with Todoroki.

Bakugo: No shit, Sparky! That plain faced bastard got lucky!

Just as the fight was about to be called, cracking was heard. What followed was a loud boom as the ice imploded. Todoroki and everyone was shocked to see Octus unfazed by the attack. Even Lance and Ilana were caught off guard.

Todoroki: What the hell?!

Before Todoroki could process this, Octus charges at him with blinding speed. Todoroki was barely able to react in time to avoid the attacks by forming an ice wall to protect himself. The ice wall is quickly shattered by one punch from Octus. As the ice wall was shattered, Todoroki uses his ice powers to slide away, but Octus was able to keep up the pace. As Todoroki was forced on the defensive, Octus noticed something strange. It seemed as if Todoroki was not using his Quirk to it's fullest capabilities. In fact, he was ignoring one side of his Quirk entirely. 

Octus: Todoroki, you are not using the other half of your Quirk? Is there something inhibiting your ability to use your Quirk to it's full extent?

Todoroki: That's none of your business!

As Todoroki lashes out at Octus with a ice attack, Octus takes the moment to run a scan on Todoroki's vitals. All appeared to be normal with the exception of a heightened heart rate due to stress. Despite all his vitals seeming normal, Todoroki was still not using the other half of his Quirk. He had seen Todoroki use his Fire Quirk very sparingly if at all. It was as if he was actively avoiding using the fire side of his Quirk. 

Octus: I don't understand, Todoroki. Are you purposely not using the fire half of your Quirk? Why are you fighting if you're not giving it your all? 

Octus's words agitated Todoroki as he freezes Octus's body. Octus then vibrates his body with enough force to shatter the ice. In that moment, the fight between Octus and Todoroki reached a stalemate. Suddenly, Midoriya called out to Todoroki from the stands.

Midoriya: COME ON TODOROKI! DON'T GIVE UP! DO YOUR BEST!

Impassioned by Midoriya, Todoroki ignites his flames and unleashes a devastating fire attack onto Octus. As the fires engulfed Octus, Octus was able to put out the flames. In that moment, the fight became even as Todoroki attacked Octus with both fire and ice attacks. Back in the stands, everyone in 1-A was in shock. 

Mina: Holy crap! Look at Shoto go! It looks like he's got Newton's number!

Yaoyorozu: I wonder how Newton is going to counter this if he can.

Lance and Ilana were silent as they were focusing on the fight. Back at the fight, Octus continued to analyze Todoroki's attack patterns which became more and more frenzied and unpredictable, making it difficult for Octus to plan his approach. However, Octus soon saw his opportunity when he pinpointed a weakness. He could see that he was starting to suffer from the overuse of both his Quirks while negating them. Seizing the opportunity, Octus charges at Todoroki and begins attacking him with a series on concentrated punches on Todoroki. In an attempt to defend himself, Todoroki unleashes a barrage of fire and ice at Octus, but Octus was able to land the final blow, punching Todoroki in the face with enough force to incapacitate him. 

Midnight: TODOROKI HAS BEEN INCAPACIATED! THE WINNER OF THIS MATCH IS NEWTON OF 1-A!

As Midnight announces the fight, the crowd erupts in thunderous applause for Octus. 

Present Mic(Intercom): WHAT A FIGHT! WHAT A FIGHT! AND JUST LIKE THAT, NEWTON ADVANCES TO THE FINAL ROUND! WHO WILL FACE HIM?! FIND OUT SOON, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! 

With that, Octus made his way back to the stands while Todoroki was carried off to the infirmary. After that, the next match began with Bakugo scoring a dominating victory over Tokoyami due to his Explosion Quirk all but overpower Tokoyami's Dark Shadow Quirk. As the final match was made, Octus and Bakugo would face each other in the final match of the Sports Festival.
