Chapter Thirty Four - Into The Lion's Den

As Lance and Octus set out on their search for Ilana, the Mutraad Elite sets up a camp near an abandoned warehouse. Within the camp, Ilana had woken up in chains. She attempts to free herself, but was stopped by Lurtz. The two glared for a moment as Ilana remained defiant in the face of danger. Meanwhile, Lance and Octus were closing in on Ilana's signal. Soon enough, they reached the warehouse and could see the Mutraddi camp. 

Octus: The signal stops here. 

Lance surveys the area. The first thing he saw was the Mutraddi transport ship. 

Lance: Octus, we need to take out that transport ship. 

Octus scans the area for Ilana. It didn't take long for Octus to find Ilana just as Lurtz was about to load her onto the ship. Octus turns to Lance and nods at him. Without hesitation, Lance activates his Manus armor and charged straight for the transport ship. With a swing of his axe, he destroys the transport ship. As the Mutraad Elite were alerted to their position, Ilana took the opportunity to get up and begin moving away. She didn't make it far as Lurtz grabbed her. 

Ilana: Let me go!

As Ilana struggled, Lance stepped in and attacked Lurtz. Lance swings his axe and destroys Ilana's chains. This allowed Ilana to tackle Lurtz and retrieve her watch. Once Ilana retrieves her watch, she activates her Corus armor. With Ilana freed, she joined Lance and Octus in fighting the Mutraad Elite. Despite the ambush, the Mutraad Elite were still able to hold their own. Lurtz readies his bow and fires Energy Arrows at both Lance and Ilana. Even as they moved at superhuman speeds, Lurtz hits Lance and Ilana with Energy Arrows which deactivate their suits. Lurtz was about to fire another arrow at Lance, but Ilana grabs a fallen Mutraad Elite's sword and swings it at Lurtz, destroying his bow. 

Ilana: I won't let you hurt anyone else!

Lurtz roars as he attacks Ilana. Lance joins in and lands several punches and kicks on the Mutraad Leader. Lurtz grabs Lance by the throat and begins to viciously beat him. As Lance attempts to fight back, Ilana charges in and impales Lurtz in the chest. The Mutraddi roared in pain as he simply punched Ilana away. Lurtz lets go of Lance and falls on his knees only for him to get up. Despite the wound, Lurtz conjures the strength to get up and resume the attack. As Lurtz walks towards Ilana, Lance intervenes. 

Lance: Stay away from her, you bastard! 

As Lance attacks Lurtz, the Mutraddi punches him with enough force to knock him to the ground. 

Ilana: Lance!

Lance: Ilana! Run! Get out of here!

Ilana: I am not leaving you behind!

As Lurtz begins to strangle Lance, Ilana charges in and attacks Lurtz. Fueled by bloodlust, Lurtz turned his fury on Ilana and began to attack her. It was at this moment that Lance charged in and attacked Lurtz. As the two fought, Lance pushes the blade still impaled in Lurtz's stomach, causing Lurtz to groan in pain. However, Lurtz kept on attacking. Meanwhile, Octus fought against the horde of Mutraad Elite. They initially gave him trouble, but he tapped into his combat functions and unleashed a relentless onslaught of energy attacks. Back with Ilana and Lance, they continued to fight the mortally injured Lurtz. Even as Lurtz began to bleed out, he continued to attack Ilana and Lance with everything he had. Lance grabbed another Mutraddi Sword and rammed it through Lurtz's chest. Lurtz roared in pain as he pulled the sword deeper into his own stomach. As Lurtz was about to kill Lance by biting him, Ilana grabs another Mutraddi Sword and swings it at Lurtz, decapitating him. As Lurtz was killed, Ilana fell to her knees. She began to hyperventilate as she saw the black blood of the Mutraddi on her hands. Lance slowly walked over to Ilana and hugged her in an attempt to comfort her. 

Lance: It's okay, Ilana....it's okay....

Ilana: Lance...I.....

Lance: You're safe, Ilana. That's all that matters. 

As Lance said that, Octus finishes off the last of the Mutraad Elite. He begins to approach both Lance and Ilana.

Octus: The area is clear. 

Lance: Good. Let's get out of here. 

As Lance says this, the trio make their way to the abandoned warehouse. But as they did so, Octus began to pick up some strange readings from inside the warehouse. 

Lance: What's wrong?

Octus says nothing as he runs a scan on the warehouse. It wasn't long before he finds the tracker that Yaoyorozu placed. 

Octus: I am picking up Yaoyorozu's tracer from inside the warehouse.

Lance: You mean the one she placed on that Nomu?

Octus: That is correct. I am also detecting several life signs from inside the warehouse. 

Ilana: We should investigate. 

Lance: No, Ilana. We need to get you to safety. 

Ilana: No. If there's anyone who needs our help, we must do so. 

Despite Lance's protests, the trio went inside the warehouse. When they entered the warehouse, they found multiple storage tanks with Nomu stored inside them. Seeing this shocked the three. 

Ilana: This must be where the League of Villains creates those creatures!

Lance: I've got a bad feeling about this....

In that moment, Ilana and Lance along with Octus found themselves in the factory that produces Nomu for the League of Villains. What they didn't know was that they would soon bear witness to a Villain's return.
