Chapter Twenty Two - The Hero Killer

As the internships were underway, Ilana and Lance continued their internships under Hawks. But their internships with the Number Three Hero proved less than enlightening as whenever they went out on patrol, Hawks always proved too fast for them to catch up. Lance was especially frustrated at this. One night, Ilana and Lance were patrolling Hosu City. Under Hawks's instructions, Ilana and Lance as well as Tokoyami split up to cover more ground. Before they went on patrol, Lance spoke with Ilana. 

Lance: I don't like leaving you alone. Least of all in this place. 

Ilana: I'll be fine, Lance. 

It was clear to Ilana that Lance was hesitant about letting her conduct this patrol alone. Ilana sighs as she attempts to alleviate his concerns. 

Ilana: If I run into any trouble, I'll contact you. 

Though Lance was not exactly thrilled about this, Ilana's promise to contact him if she ran into trouble would suffice. With that, Ilana and Lance began their patrols. Ilana patrolled the city with much enthusiasm. As she walked the streets, Ilana was taken aback by the sights of the city. The night lights reminded her of Galauna. As she marveled at the city lights, she heard the sound of fighting coming from an alleyway. Curious, Ilana decides to investigate it. She peaks from around the corner to see Midoriya and Todoroki fighting an unknown assailant armed with multiple swords. She could also see Iida lying on the ground. Next to him was the Pro Hero Native.

Ilana: (Iida!)

As Ilana was about to intervene, she paused for a moment. She contemplated contacting Lance as she had promised to him earlier. Despite the promise she made, Ilana thought about the promise she made to herself after the Sports Festival. 

Ilana: (I....I won't back down! I can be Galauna's Symbol of Hope! What would All Might say?)

As Ilana took a moment to catch her breath, she glanced over to the individual that was currently trying to kill Midoriya and Todoroki. She could see Iida slowly getting up. Without hesitation, Ilana clenched her fists and prepared for battle. 

Ilana: Fear not.....

Using the power of her Corus armor, she charges in and attacks the Villain. She lands a devastating punch, knocking him back against a building. 

Ilana: .....because I am here!

Midoriya: Ilana! How did you find us?!

Ilana: I was on patrol when I heard the fighting. I knew I had to help! Is Iida.....

Todoroki: Iida's fine. He's paralyzed from Stain's Quirk. 

Ilana: Stain?

Midoriya: The Hero Killer. The Villain responsible for the attack of several Villains. Iida's brother barely survived an encounter with him.

Soon enough, Stain recovered from Ilana's attack. 

Stain: You have strong conviction, girl. While you defend unworthy scum, you however hold true to the duties of a Hero! 

Ilana: We won't let you hurt our friend! Surrender! 

Stain: And why would I let this one live? He sought vengeance against me. Instead of being a true Hero and rising above such things, he gave in to his selfishness. He sought to kill me not because it was the right thing to do, but because of his own selfish desires. Instead of attacking me to save this fake, he attacked me to seek revenge. A true Hero seeks justice! Not revenge! Fakes like him need to die!

Midoriya: He's getting ready to attack! Ilana, don't let him draw blood from you!

Ilana: Understood!

As Ilana prepared to battle Stain alongside Midoriya and Iida, Iida was slowly getting up.

Iida: (Damn it! Damn it! He was right! I'm....I'm just a burden! In my own rage, I lost sight of what it means to be a Hero! Now my friends are risking their lives for me because I got myself into this! I....I can't let them face that madman alone! I must fight! I must prove myself as a Hero!)

Iida slowly got up. Despite the pain from his injuries, Iida got up and began running towards the group. Before Stain could react, Iida lands a punch on Stain, disorienting him.

Midoriya: Iida!

Iida: I won't let you fight my battles!

Stain: That was quite a hit. But it won't do you any good. You will die here. Like all the other fakes!

Midoriya: Iida! Todoroki! Ilana! Launch a coordinated attack!

Todoroki then uses the fire side of his Quirk to shoot out blasts of fire, forcing Stain to keep a distance. Stain was able to dodge the attacks. The fight soon began to be too much for him. 

Stain readied his swords and prepared to lay out a final attack on the Heroes. Todoroki shoots blasts of ice with his Quirk. This attack presents an opportunity for both Midoriya and Iida land a simultaneous attack on Stain, devastating him. As Stain staggers back, Ilana charges at Stain and attacks him with a flurry of attacks.

Ilana: I don't care who you are, I won't let you hurt my friends! Your reign of terror is over, Hero Killer! 

Ilana then fires a powerful blast from her hands to land the finishing blow on Stain, knocking him back against a wall, knocking him out. As Stain was rendered unconscious, Iida turned to the others. 

Iida: Midoriya. Todoroki. Ilana. I'm....I'm sorry.....

Midoriya: Don't be, Iida. We understand.

Ilana: We all makes mistakes, Iida. There is no shame in that. 

Suddenly, the ground began to shake. They all looked to the horizon and saw smoke.

Todoroki: Iida. Are you able to fight?

Iida: I....I think I'll manage. What about you, Native?

Native: I'm still a little sore from that fight, but I can help with whatever's out there.

Midoriya: Right! Let's tie up Stain and leave him here!

As Midoriya tied up Stain, Ilana joined Midoriya, Todoroki and Iida in their defense of Hosu City. What Ilana didn't know was that Xeexi was about to use this attack to make his move.
