Chapter Thirty Three - The Path Of A Hero

After the Villain attack on the Quirk Training Camp, Lance and Octus along with the rest of Class 1-A made their way to the infirmary where Midoriya was recovering from his injuries. They were promptly told by Aizawa to not go after Bakugo and leave it to the Pros. As Aizawa said that he left. Midoriya made a decision.

Midoriya: We're going after Kacchan.

Tsuyu: But you heard what Mr. Aizawa said....

Midoriya: It was my fault that the Villains were able to take Kacchan in the first place! If I had just been faster, I would've been able to save him!

Kirishima: Midoriya's right! We have to rescue Bakugo! He's our classmate and he needs our help!

Todoroki: I agree. We can't allow Bakugo to remain in the hands of the Villains.

At that point, the class were divided on what to do. Most felt that the best course of action was to listen to Aizawa's instructions and let the Pros handle this. However, Lance turned to Octus. 

Lance: Octus, have you found a way to track Ilana or the Mutraddi?

Octus: Yes. I have already activated the tracking device embedded in Ilana's armor. 

Lance: Good. Then let's get going. 

As Lance was about to walk away, Iida stopped him.

Iida: Where do you think you're going? 

Lance: To find Ilana. 

Tsuyu: You heard what Mr. Aizawa said. We should let the Pros handle this.

Iida: Asui is right! As your Class Representative, I cannot allow you to go through with this!

Without warning, Lance punched Iida in the face. Octus was quick to restrain Lance. 

Lance: Who the hell do you think you are, Iida?! What gives you the right to tell me to stand by and let them take Ilana! 

Iida: This isn't our way, Lance! 

Lance: No. This is your way. Not mine. If you're all content to acting like cowards, then that's on you. I on the other hand won't stand by and allow Ilana to remain a prisoner!

Octus: Calm down, Lance!

Upon hearing this, Lance was taken aback by this. 

Lance: Are you insane?! You know what's at stake! 

Octus: I am fully aware of that, Lance. But we barely survived our attackers. 

Iida: Listen to reason, Lance! Do you think Ilana would want you rushing into danger like this?!

Lance: Cowards.....all of you! You're all nothing but gutless cowards! 

Lance's words shocked the entire class. 

Lance: Where I come from, we have a code. Those who break the rules are scum. But those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum! If you're willing to leave Bakugo to his fate, so be it. But I won't let Ilana meet that fate. Just try and stop me. 

Without warning, Lance walks away. Octus gestures the rest of the class to stay behind and let him handle it. As Lance was about to exit the building, Octus stopped him. 

Octus: I know how you feel, Lance. I know you blame yourself for what happened. But it wasn't your fault. 

Lance: But it was, Octus! I was tasked with protecting her. The King trusted me to protect her! Now the Mutraddi have her! If they take her off planet, then I fail. I fail Galaluna. I fail......

Lance stops before he could finish his sentence. As he thinks about what happened to Ilana, Lance became frustrated to the point where he punched the wall. Octus could see that what happened to Ilana deeply troubled Lance. 

Octus: Lance, I understand you feel obligated to help Ilana. I share this sentiment as well. But you must understand the great risk you are taking. The Mutraddi that took her are not the Mutraddi that we have faced. They are not mindless beasts. These are dangerous fighters. 

Lance: I don't care. Ilana....Ilana would do the same for either of us. 

Octus took note of Lance's words. It was clear to Octus that there was more to this than Lance was letting on. 

Octus: Lance, I'll help you on this mission to save Ilana. But before we do, I need to know that we're doing this for the right reasons. I need to know that if we do this, we're doing this for the right reasons. 

As Octus said this, Lance took a moment to think this through. In his mind, he needed to save Ilana. But the more he thought of it, the less he thought of the mission. He thought solely of Ilana. His mind fell back to his battle with Ilana during the Sports Festival. 

Lance(Past): Why are you doing this?! Who are you trying to prove?!

Ilana(Past): All Might is the Symbol of Peace in this world. When he's here, the people feel safe and protected! Galaluna needs a Symbol of Peace! I....I have to be that symbol! Everyone on Galaluna is counting on me! I....I can't fail them!

After a moment, Lance spoke up.

Lance: We have to save Ilana. We have to.....

Octus took a moment to analyze Lance's words and reactions. He could see Lance's heart beating fast. 

Lance: Ilana is Galaluna's symbol of peace. Anyone else would've given up. She wouldn't give up. Neither should we. 

Octus: Very well. Let's go. 

With that, Lance and Octus began following the tracker on Ilana's suit in an attempt to save her from the Mutraad Elite. As they set out on their mission, Lance would do whatever it took to save Ilana, no matter the costs. But what they didn't know was that an even bigger threat awaited them.
